Tracy (LST2022)

We were both young and I was so much in love with her I actually felt like I was arcing and sparking every time we held hands.

I never once thought we would not be together for the rest of our lives but fate has a way of interfering with the desires and best laid plans of mere mortals.

Tracy was coming back from school during rush hour when a truck crossed the medium and struck her car head on. I found out by a news report: there was a closed casket service for her remains.

I honestly had no desire to live after that. I actually took a gun and stuck it in my mouth with my finger on the trigger and as I was applying pressure my phone rang. I was torn between finishing my life or answering the phone.

I answered the phone. “Hello.”

“Is this Mr. Ray Hendrix ?”

“Yes.”

“ Sir I am sorry to inform you but your father has had an apparent heart attack while at Dr. Wonsu's office today. He was unresponsive to our efforts to revive him and consequently he was pronounces dead at 12:36 this afternoon. I am sorry sir to have to be the one to tell you but as you are his only emergency contact we called you first.”

“We have made arrangements for his body to be taken to the Memorial Funeral home which is located three blocks from his listed home address; the Funeral homes address is 2343 Pine Lane. I am so sorry Mr. Hendrix.”

I read the address back to her and thanked her for calling me and then I hung up.

I guess lightning really does strike twice.

That day of misery and sorrow happened 9 years ago as I sat here reflecting before my pending marriage to Sara who had pulled me back into a relationship I never thought I would ever be able to experience again.

Life goes on.....

A tad on the dark side but, that's often life experiences. I was expecting a plane struck by lightning twice and time warped to a different world.😎
