In Ontario the Ford Government is allowing landlords to approve rent increases in almost highest in a decade and something that Ford lied in his campaign to his voters and supporters.

This rent increases comes as many in the province are struggling to pay enough rent and for food on their plates.
Ford government approves highest rent increases in almost a decade.

So, you're suggesting that the government force rent controls on to private landlords?

Isn't that... Socialism?

New York City tried that. It didn't work. What happened was the landlords subdivided their units, leading to stuff like people paying exorbitant sums to rent a single room, with a shared bathroom.

Guess what..it's happening anyway here. I saw one ad, 1500, for a hallway, with a fridge stuffed in the end, and a walk in closet as a bedroom..thats it.

Makes me want to burn the place down..of course I wouldn't, because I would be making the 17 people living there homeless.

I don't know the answer..but something going to break, and it wont be pretty.

Well, even a 2.5% increase is ok with me..whats happening..en mass, is landlords kicking people out, for made up reasons, then the rent increase is 25-50%, closer to the bigger end.

In the Bend Oregon area, in response to the increase in homeless population, the city has been pumping $$ into an organization to provide a shelter for the last year. Due to past involvement in Veteran outreach, a friend asked if I would help there, and I did.
Recently we took a survey at the shelter to determine how many there were working. The results were a little surprising; out of just under 100 adults, 24 had jobs. Like so many places nowadays, the cost of rent is pricing folks out of places to live here. There are many issues that surround homelessness, but the rising cost of rent is a big contributing factor.

Thanks for helping!

It has gotten way out of control here, with a less than 1% vacancy rate, and probably a 3%.."my landlord kicked me out rate" so his "family" can move in rate..epidemic at the moment. One of my friend works at a local casino, unionised, she was telling about 2 of her coworkers, gainfully employed that have to live in a homeless shelter at the moment.

There is good segment of our "traditional" homeless population, that have addiction, and or mental health issues, theres a fair number of those, who are ok with "no rules" street life, over shelters..but this is so different right now..very sad to see. I was in that boat myself, lucky as hell a friend is helping me out of this jam.
