In Canada as Canadian Justin Trudeau, liberals push for more sanctions and while the inflation rises to the highest level than in certain years.
There are many Canadians who couldn't afford to pay their rent and some are living on the streets.

While JT travels to the NATO summit in Spain with his private jet millions of Canadians in some provinces arent able to keep up on paying for food or rent.

From the same Canadian government that is trying to ignore the higher costs of living impacting millions of Canadians.
In this article by CBC they mention how a family of 5 kids are now living tent housing.

With South Shore housing.

In Ontario the Ford Government is allowing landlords to approve rent increases in almost highest in a decade and something that Ford lied in his campaign to his voters and supporters.

This rent increases comes as many in the province are struggling to pay enough rent and for food on their plates.

I'm raising rent on my tenants when their leases are up.
My expenses have increased a great deal so I have little choice.
As for the highest increase in decades..
It's a max of 2.5%
So someone paying $1000 a month now will be paying an extra $25 per month.

How come our rents are $3,000 and up??
The only people who can afford to pay are those on welfare.

This is my neck of the woods. Housing became an issue when we got a huge influx of people from other provinces moving to Nova Scotia because we had cheaper real estate. That drive prices sky high, edging out locals affordability wise. Landlords jumped on board and got out of the rental business forcing many to move in with family, or as you posted, other less than ideal means. Now with the recent influx of Ukrainian refugees to our province that must be housed, we are far beyond our breaking point.
We are a have not province. The majority cannot afford $1800 a month plus utilities. Landlords want proof of income that is 3x the rent and very few jobs pay that here.
I have seen so many social media posts of people desperate to house their families, willing to share bedrooms with their children, having to rehome pets...It's devastating.
Thing is...government doesn't care.
They announce they have allocated so much for new housing but how does that help those who need it now?
As for Ontario, I just got back from a visit to my hometown and was shocked and appalled that there was a tent city near a shopping plaza nearby. My town never had a homeless issue. This is due , I'm told, to Toronto bussing them up north to clear them out of the city. That's Doug Ford's solution. Out of sight, out of mind.

That could end up being Ford's problem and for the Right when things can get badly and there could be civil unrest in Western Countries more practical in larger cities.

Sounds like we need some sort of a reset. When the jobs don't pay enough to live in the area where they operate, something needs to be reset right?

Create a problem, come up with a solution, put the solution into action.

This seems to be happening all over the world, something like that would be considered a great reset. We are still in the create a problem phase and I don't know how long they are going to put people in misery but I think it's going to be years. This definately hasn't affected everyone yet, the problem will have to hit many more area's before a solution is proposed. At that point people will be cheering in the streets for the solution. Well, whoever is left at that point.

Problem Reaction Solution, Reaction Solution come to mind. But you are right and when people hit the streets in the near future things could get complicated.

If Doug Ford's solution is to hide, cover up the issues in the cities in the province unfortunately they wont be successful considering they just approved rent hike.

You can see the issue when you go to a church and depending on the day they would host their food bank donations to the community. The lineups are getting bigger.

Oh yeah there is a housing crisis in Australia but especially far north QLD and I read a news item the other day about a pregnant woman who has a partner that has a decent job and a couple of children that have been left with nowhere to live due to the fact that the house they were renting got sold. They have applied for heaps of rentals but due to housing crisis cannot find anywhere to live so they called around all the caravan parks in the area to see if they could find a cabin or something to live in until they can find a place but there were only camping sites available. So this working family with children and a pregnant mother are going to have to live in a damn tent in winter ffs! The woman is pregnant. The husband works and has a decent job. No housing available.

What a %$%$ country Australia is. Meanwhile we are sending money/aid to Ukraine that we dont have to prolong a war that they cannot win which is causing inflation and pretty soon a depression. There will be a lot more Australians living in tents before long. Is this a war on Russia or on the western public? %$%$ Ukraine. Who gives a flying %$%$ if Russia controls Ukraine or not? If Ukraine cannot defend themselves without destroying western economies then they do not deserve to exist. %$%$ Zelenskyy the %$%$ing beggar. We have money for Ukrainian aid and to take in Ukraine refugees but we have pregnant women living in tents through winter? WTF? Austerity again after pandemic but we got money for Ukraine? Money for Ukraine that results in working Australians struggling to fill their cars with fuel to drive to work? %$%$ UKRAINE! A bad peace is better than this!

We all need to get rid of these %$%$ing idiots like Boris Johnson, Biden, Albanese and that Canadian girl etc etc. They will destroy us before they destroy Russia.

You're not alone! Every once prosperous country is facing the same issues- as rent gets too high for average working folk to afford, they end up on the street- and the government pays to house refugees in them.

On the news tonight, it said Ukraine is costing 50 BILLION dollars a month. That expense makes no sense, unless the point is to destroy all world economies in order to usher in a new world order.

Here in B.C., you can barely rent a bedroom here for 1000..it's f;ing sick whats going on.

I know people who make decent money and are now living in a shelter, still working. My neighbourhood has a bunch of 5th wheels and junky motorhomes in it now.

I'm being asked to move, after 8 years in same house, never failed to pay rent on time. But it's ok, the landlord is importing family from another country to take my spot. I put out 70 responses to rentals, got 2 replies, one was a scammer. I'm lucky a friend is helping me out. This country is finished, I f'ing hate Canada, my home for my 50+ years..oh ya, I'm f'ing pissed!!!

I'm going to assault the next f'ing real estate developer who knocks on my door.

Only better for those that make 100k+ a year around here. In a few months time, a sh%thole 1 br apt is going to be 2k+, if 53 other people don't get it first..I have never been more distraught over the future as I am right now. Our provincial govt is as useless as tits on a bull. The asswipe premier had the balls to announce they were going to spend a billion on a new museum, but no help for us..it backfired bigly on him..no museum now, but no help to us either.

It takes 18 years to raise a child.
The world has become a far different place in only two years.
It isn't about affording to have a child or not. It's about not enough housing for anyone, even those without children. It's about our government happily giving away millions of dollars to foreign aid countries instead of looking after it's own first. It's about bringing in refugees and giving them priority status over those who have been on a wait list for housing for over 5 years. It's about seniors who cannot afford the massive increases in rent and are forced to move back in with adult children, and vice versa. It's a literal clusterf*ck of circumstances affecting the middle-class on down and sadly it feels pretty well orchestrated as a way to tear it all down so it can be " built back better" when the majority of society's undesirables have given up hope.
EDIT...
The family in question as per the thread title, lost their home to a fire and have been unable to secure housing since. I know this to be true because I Live here!

So, you're suggesting that the government force rent controls on to private landlords?

Isn't that... Socialism?

Yes, you are the only one saying that.

Go back and re-read the post. The dad has a job. They were doing fine until the house they were renting got sold. Because of the housing crisis, they cannot find another place to live, and must now live in a tent.

---

Housing prices where I live are going thru the roof as well. Granted, where I live is now a trendy area, but if I needed to find a new place to live there is no way I could afford to buy a house around here now, and even renting would likely be out of reach for anything big enough to accommodate my family. I would have to move way out into the country somewhere.

New York City tried that. It didn't work. What happened was the landlords subdivided their units, leading to stuff like people paying exorbitant sums to rent a single room, with a shared bathroom.
