I saw my girl off to school today
She crossed the street with care
And turned to wave, a habit
Without which I can’t bear.
I watched her grow more distant;
I couldn’t know just how.
That distance soon unbreachable--
Too far to fathom now.

They brought her bag home packed with lunch
Her coat was folded neatly
One sadly told me to visit the morgue
To collect my Lana completely.
I won’t believe it. It can’t even be real.
She’s too young to be laid out cold on the steel
There's no words on this planet to describe how I feel
After sending my daughter to school today.
