Cool cold case from BITD and all because of the water level dropping in Lake Mead. The police are expecting to find more which is a pretty chilling thought. All the stories of people buried in the desert might turn out to be bodies dumped into the lake.

www.msn.com...

May 3 (UPI) -- Police in Las Vegas on Tuesday said a body found in a barrel in Lake Mead over the weekend may have been the victim of murder up to 50 years ago.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Section Lt. Ray Spencer said detectives believe the victim, whose remains were found in a 50-gallon drum, was killed in the mid-1970s or early 1908s based on the clothing and shoes the man was wearing. Spencer said the shoes found on the body were sold at Kmart and manufactured in the mid- and late-1970s.

Investigators are attempting to identify the victim, who Spencer said police believe died in " a homicide as a result of a gunshot wound." Las Vegas resident Shawna Hollister said she and her husband found the "very deteriorated" barrel containing the body of a male that had decomposed to mostly bones after hearing a woman's scream when visiting the lake.

"The water level has dropped so much over the last 30 to 40 years that, where the person was located, if a person were to drop the barrel in the water and it sinks, you are never going to find it unless the water level drops," he said. "The water level has dropped and made the barrel visible. The barrel did not move ... It was not like the barrel washed up." He added that "it's likely that we will find additional bodies that have been dumped in Lake Mead," as the water level continues to drop.

Don't worry, it's not like california is dumping millions of gallons of fresh drinking water into the ocean for no good reason.
Oh wait, they did exactly that.

Well, when they start proposing a pipeline from the east coast to haul water from the great lakes out west so they can dump THAT into the ocean, I expect some action to stop them.

Idiots gonna idiot- let them die in the hell they've created.

Jimmy Hoffa disappeared in June of 1975. Maybe it’s him?

I heard if they drop enough covid 19 vaccines in the lake it will prevent the drought .

Not likely , most likely died of covid.

joking aside and more crazy than finding the body is that police expects more bodies to be found.
Hopefully it brings closure to the victims family.

If u think that's creepy don't go looking in the mineshafts ... Really who would dig a hole when there's 500ft deep mineshafts that not even rescues workers will enter to save someone alive

Hey headlines like this, "likely a homicide". From the '70s and '80s how could they possibly know? Maybe he drove the barrel out there, climbed in it and shot himself to death and commit suicide.

i guess cement shoes hadn't made it that far west?

i wonder if he was stuffed in the barrel and then they used it for target practice.
to kill him and put holes for the water to fill it.

imagine what's in the east river!

The people who live there and deal with the problems are not the same people who caused the problems.

Reminds me when I was a wee kid we had an extreme
smell from under the front porch like something died.
It was horrible & went on maybe 1yr or so. Maybe me mum had workers come out fir possible animal death
& they treated the area with Lyme & eveything possible.

Nothing worked to rid the smell of death! Me mum
believed that someone was murdered & the body was
placed in the cement foundation. It took yrs for the
smell to disipate.

I was told that was common practice in the 60s & 70s.

Cheers
Ektar
