ATS - Unsecured Connection When Posting?

Just noticed today…

When I’m simply reading ATS, my browser says my connection is “secure”.

However, when you post, it flashes to “un-secure” or non-https, then goes back to secure once your post is put up.

The entire time I’m writing this post, my browser is not secure. However, it will show “secure” after I post and am only consuming and not creating content.

I’ve never noticed this before, so maybe it was always the case. But, I definitely noticed it after the ATS outage.

Kind of odd to me.

Anyone with more IT security knowledge have any idea what causes this or if it’s an issue to be concerned about?

I am not using IE, Safari, or other common browsers when using the site, if that is part of the equation.

I think it may be related to your ISP, I just tested the topic creation features and connection security didn't change at any point.

If you are referring to the padlock icon next to the address bar, then you can click it to get more information about the current state.

I think all traffic with this website is forced to HTTPS. I do see SSL notices here sometimes about content, but that's often images in ads on a page that aren't being delivered from the server that has the SSL cert.

That's odd.

Sometimes, even secure webiste can have parts that still point to the old http protocol. In any case, I just tried to repeat your experience from various topics and I don't see a switch from secure to unsecure.

I even tried to force the old http address, both logged in and not, and it reverts back to a secure site every time, even using different browsers, just as IagainstEye wrote.

Are you able to reproduce it?
If so, can you take a screenshot?
Is your browser up to date?
Are you using a VPN?
Do you run an antivirus program? Is is up to date?
Have you scanned for malware?

If it is not repeatable then it's probably just one of those glitches or hiccups that are unexplainable...

For the longest time, we weren't https. Now, new owners, we are.

It does bump around as you say.

Kinda normal ATS

You may have resolved your own mystery .

You would see error(s) on mixed-mode in the console just by pressing f12 to open dev console to see whats happening. Alternatively, Install fiddler 4 from telerik. Close browser tabs except ats. Capture. Open post form. Make post. Stop capture. Look at each connection to ats. My guess if anything is there may be an http embedded link to a sponsor but i dont care enough to do your leg-work for root cause analysis tbh.

remember that old song "Somebody's Watching You" well this totally isn't that.

Tried it out on a few browsers and only one time did it swap out from Https to http and back, all other times it stayed, so.....my opinion which is worth about a cup of New Orleans style coffee, Sid that its typical ATS website behavior and no-one is really watching you

Appreciate the insights, all!

I’ll go ahead and ignore this going forward.
