... these last 50 years or so, and in a bigger picture since much longer: our culture doesn't do anymore what it's supposed to do.
We gave in to alcohol. All our holidays are with alcohol. That's part of the culture problem.
We are shattered into meaningless trivial differences. So much so we stand for nothing anymore.
We adapted personality driven leanings as dividing lines. You don't decide if your conservative or progressive, you're born that way. It's kind of the first derivative of your other traits, like tragedy or comedy.
Our culture should give us reason to celebrate something bigger than ourselves. Like the Earth cycles spring, summer, fall and winter.
We are not part of them anymore, not as closely as we used to. Culture should provide us with that.
Not #ing social media and net-fix. Culture like celebrations, unity in a cause. Preferably a constructive one.
Art. Real art.
They took that from us, didn't they? Since 2020... oh boy, right?
Not just since 2020, but with the Tube and Co. Right?

My point: come the # together and hug the # out of a consenting adult. Ey I mean: life, it's awesome, it is the miracle.
Let's strongly make the point they can all # off! You have no power if no one believes you do.

Life is a serious of failures and triumphs.

It's a hard slog spotted with moments of happiness and pain.

But its the only one we have, and people should make the most of it whilst they still have the legs to carry them.

Because just like childhood it does not last forever.

End of the day we are here for a good time not a long time.

It ain't no joke, I'd like to buy the world a toke
And teach the world to sing in perfect harmony
And teach the world to snuff the fires and the liars
Hey, I know it's just a song but it's spice for the recipe

This is a love attack, I know it went out but it's back
It's just like any fad, it retracts before impact
And just like fashion it's a passion for the with it and hip
If you got the goods, they'll come
And buy it just to stay in the clique

So don't delay, act now supplies are running out
Allow if you're still alive, six to eight years to arrive
And if you follow, there may be a tomorrow
But if the offer's shunned, you might as well be walkin' on the sun

25 years ago they broke out and they broke out
Recession, oppression together they toked
And they folked out with guitars around a bonfire
Just singin' and clappin' man what the hell happened

Then some were spellbound some were hellbound
Some they fell down and some got back up and
Fought back 'gainst the melt down
And their kids were hippie chicks all hypocrites
Because fashion is smashin' the true meaning of it

So don't delay, act now supplies are running out
Allow if you're still alive six to eight years to arrive
And if you follow, there may be a tomorrow
But if the offer's shunned, you might as well be walkin' on the sun

It ain't no joke when a mama's handkerchief is soaked
With her tears because her baby's life has been revoked
The bond is broke up, so choke up and focus on the close up
Mr. Wizard can't perform no godlike hocus-pocus

So don't sit back, kick back and watch the world get bushwhacked
News at 10:00 your neighborhood is under attack
Put away the crack before the crack, puts you away
You need to be there when your baby's old enough to relate (hey, hey)

So don't delay, act now supplies are running out
Allow if you're still alive six to eight years to arrive
And if you follow, there may be a tomorrow
But if the offer's shunned, you might as well be walkin' on the sun

You might as well be walkin' on the sun
You might as well be walkin' on the sun
You might as well be walkin' on the sun
You might as well be walkin' on the sun

Alcohol has always played a big part in most of our cultures and societies.

But sure I get what you are saying.....and people are preaching far, far worse.....spread a little love certainly won't hurt things.
Yeah, maybe a bit naive, hippyish and tree hugging kumbaya sort of stuff......but a damn sight better than bombing the crap out of each other or the constant political bing-pong that just serves to aggravate and divide people.

Baz Luhrmann's "Everybody's Free" springs to mind.

Nope; we gave it away freely- by choice, and replaced it with other things and ideals. Well, some people did.

To a certain extent that's true.

That being said geography and social circumstance still somewhat dictate the chances you have in life.

For example some poor kid in darkest Africa born into a family of 14 that receives little to no education, and lives 20 miles from the nearest clear water source, is hardly lightly to go on to become an astronaut or surgeon.

People thrive when given the opportunity to do so, but they are not equal by any manner nor means down to a multitude of different reasons.

That don't mean that we should not strive towards a measure of equality for all.

Life only exists because of the dichotomy you are talking about. You can’t hug it out if there was never a conflict to begin with.

Treating all people, including posters on ATS, with respect, dignity and kindness goes along way.

People do stupid stuff without being drunk, stop blaming booze.

I didn't mean people shouldn't drink anymore. Just that it would seem we lost something, once people came together to experience the Eleusian mysteries and such, now to eat and drink until they can't walk anymore...

No I don't believe in nice. If I truly feel annoyed by a member on ATS saying the same thing over and over for years, I let them know.
