there is too much war talk going on with this event,,,

Putin is avoiding conflict with Ukraine/NATO/ USA by only coming to the aid of the two populations of Independent-minded citizens who consider their selves connected to Russia instead of Ukraine

Putin came as a Protector not as a conqueror of foreign enemies

so Biden & his Regime 'Handler's' best keep the Peace instead of pushing-the-panic-button needlessly

ETA; i had earlier posted that Putin can further deescalate the situation by declaring the 2 independent areas as 'Under Russian Protection' and designate the 2 eastern areas as official Protectorates ...much like the 16 protectorates world-wide that the USA maintains ....

I was reasonably sure we had boomers sitting off of both coasts for several decades now. The question then becomes where are our boomers? We "only" have 18 of them in active service right about now.

You think they need missiles to take down the power infrastructure in the US? That's very very funny. Our power infrastructure is so vulnerable to cyber attack it's not even funny. I say that as someone who has spent the last decade or so trying to help modernize our cyber protections, even with regulatory bodies like NERC CIP, it's a slow painful process and at the end of the day most are never actually secure, just compliant.

Yea, I suppose each approach has positives and negatives.

pros and cons-
pros—the western media wouldn't have time to paint more in depth narratives if Russia moves quick(whether real or manufactured). Coalitions would be harder to form since there isn't time and anticipation.
Cons- some leaders overreact when having to make quick decisions. Not as many diplomatic concessions through the transpiring of events.

It is important to keep the bad news about their failures out of the MSM

Targeted missiles at North America’s power plants will kill millions. The “sheepherders” have been living like that for thousands of years and their winters are mild.

You don't need a missile to take down the power grid- biden saw to that.

China has become the world’s leading supplier of transformers, which presents significant challenges to U.S. grid security. In his May 1, 2020 order, President Trump stated that the United States should no longer purchase transformers and other electric grid equipment manufactured in China. He signaled that it is important to end relationships that U.S. utilities have directly with Chinese businesses and multi-national companies manufacturing transformers in China, which are later plugged into the electric grid in the United States.

China and Russia are on pretty good terms these days, unlike the relationship they have with the US.

History tells us that appeasement of despotic Dictators tends to encourage them and doesn't end well.

Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Would you be willing to lay down your life to ensure Putin does not get his way? Or send your kids/grandkids to their possible deaths?

Already hearing fractures in NATO's resolve, supposedly Italy is proposing watered-down sanctions because the regions the Russians are in are already full of Russian separatists.

Biden says if Putin moves further more sanctions.

Sanctions on Russian Banks

no intention of fighting Russia

I'm listening to Joe Biden on the TV now. Is it possible for Vladimir Putin to be the president of the United States and Russia at the same time?

Asking for a friend.

NATO threaten the Russian troops that came in Kosovo who went there to protect the Serbian Civilians. NATO threaten a nuclear war over Kosovo.

For NATO geopolitical it was important as it was for Ablright and the phone companies connections there.

You keep bringing up Kosovo, you are the only one talking about it. It's irrelevant in this crisis.

You could go and live in Russia, that is probably easier and sounds like what you desire, to be ruled by a dictator, imagine having the same leader for the last 9+ years on top of a previous stint of 8 years, and you think the elections in the USA are bent....Russia says hold my beer

And then their is this to consider

a referendum in July 2020 allows Putin to stay in power until 2036

mmmmmm glorious dictatorship and a one party system

You mine as well not do anything then for they will hurt the people that are uninvolved with the decisions. Sanctions didn’t work for Crimea and the threat of sanctions aren’t doing anything to deter Putin today. Sanctions would not have deterred any of the despots you are referring to in history.

So my question, if you are willing to answer it and if not, fine, still stands.

Putin is putting his big boy pants on. biden is crapping his big boy pants. Not much of a deterrent there.

The Russian sub fleet is skilled and they are off our coastline 24/7. They always have been. Not 2 miles off the coast (as far as I know), but close enough for missiles to reach land in minutes.

The next major war will be fought with air power, subs, computer screens, and unmanned vehicles. There will always be toe to toe combat somewhere, but that will not be the deciding factor in modern warfare. Especially if the real estate is of no consequence.

I don't believe anyone other than absolute fanatic religious whack-jobs want nuclear war. Hiroshima is a double-edge sword though. On one hand it showed us how devastating that weapon can be. On the other hand, Hiroshima today is thriving, and has been for some time now. Completely wipe out your enemy and have habitable land in 50-60 years. Not a bad trade for saving thousands upon thousands of soldiers and a long drawn out resource-draining campaign on foreign soil. Still better than fighting in your own front yard though.

Hiroshima was hit by a single 16 kt nuke.

A small nuke today is 1000+ kt. And there are thousands upon thousands of them - some of which will land in your front yard because thats kind of what MAD means.

"Thriving" isnt the term I would use to describe the end result of that story.
