Before The Fire

I was given the book in the thread title on Boxing day and finished it this morning. Leslie Retallick is was formerly the Borough Historian of my hometown and it was in that capacity that I had the good fortune of meeting him. Mr Retallick's book Before The Fire, is his first attempt at fiction and I found it absolutely compelling.
The novel is set in my birthplace and the author's local historical knowledge serves to make for a thoroughly enjoyable and very satisfying read. I dont think you need to have any connections to the novels location to appreciate this book and although it is technically science fiction I would say its appeal is very wide.
