My husband painted in college and quickly ushered himself out of that job. Here’s the thing, he is a master at painting. He is so skilled that when people see our walls/paint job they have asked him to paint theirs. Of course the price is too high, he will only paint for me. He can paint a entire room white, and wear black from head to toe and not get one speck on himself. He does not need to use tape or a drop cloth. He did a suede technique on one of our houses and it took 6 months. It was a masterpiece. Here’s the thing, he hates painting!! I know a lot of people think so what, painting is painting. Not really. There is a lot more skill to it than people realize, and boy have I seen some awful paint jobs.

My son was born with the voice of an angel. He has that rich deep radio voice that is so rare. He’s one of those people that is easily recognizable from their voice. Some may even call it booming. Even at the age of eight adults would tell him he does not sound like a child. He can sing and reach notes that seem beyond human. Here’s the thing, he hates singing, absolutely hates it! UGGGG You know how many people would give anything to have a voice like that?!!!!

I’m sure you know people like that, they are so gifted, but they just don’t like the gift they were given or born with. Me, I would love to sing or be a master painter but instead I was given the gift of cooking, which I too am beginning to hate!

I'm really good at spinning BS.
If I have to write an award for someone or a justification of why we need a certain product or item over something else.

I can make a turd sandwich sound amazing.

But I hate writing.

#Metoo

The problem with this is — everyone wants me to cook since I’m so good at it.

And since I do nothing half assed, it’s always an intense process. By the time I’m finally done, I want nothing to do with the food I took hours to prepare.

I’ve learned my lesson. If you want me to cook, ain’t no way in hell I’m cleaning one single dish.

We can even see that phenomenon with athletes and celebrities who end up saying they hate what they are so good for and the reason why they are followed and loved by so many.

I have been pondering about that, because I am a bit "guilty" of not being that much into a gift I might have.

And after a long reflection on it, I came to the conclusion that it is the fact that being a master at something, at the peak, doesn't give any more challenges, and it thus becomes or feels like doing a repetitive job that bhrings no sustenance to the soul.

Some can push back boundaries of their art and create unseen achievements prior to that moment, but that is also a gift unto itself.

Also, as you point out with your husband's ability, I'm sure some part of him thinks people see his gift before himself, and exposing his gift more only accentuates that perception, in part real. And that's not a pleasant feeling, to feel non existent.

Some might say that being a grandma isn’t being a master at something, but I beg to differ.
I think it might actually be a dying art! The loving, nurturing, caring, soft, wise, grandmas of my generation are morphing into something completely different.

I remember my grandma, in her tiny tiny kitchen. We would get filthy playing in her woods. We would come in and she would wash our hair in her kitchen sink with dish soap! I can still smell that kitchen. It was a mix of cheap strong coffee, dish detergent, potatoes on the stove and wood furniture….

I am a master of telling people what to do or in general being in any sort of leadership position .

But I absolutely hate being in charge of anything , it is such a burden of stress and emotion . I will only lead if I am specifically asked to or I have no other choice.

You are exactly the kind of person that should lead instead of these Donkeys that think they know it all!

I don't really like suffering from pain.

But it seems I'm very capable in that area.

And I hate being in management positions at work, yet I keep getting pushed in to it. I also know I'm good at it, but I have Asperger's and it is really uncomfortable because I don't want to upset people, but sometimes you have to do things that upset them, and to make decisions that are hurtful.

Such things are like the afterbirth that follow you out of the womb... life time after lifetime like a plague instead of a blessing.

Of course swallowing that and just using that gift that is there like a shadow is not exactly an easy thing to do... but on the bright-side and dark side it's what such gifts expect.

Tortured is often how they feel since typically it takes a lot of work and training for such accomplishments that those that seem to come naturally for them or anyone else are often so praised that it puts out the fire the passion and it makes them feel guilty... like hey you're great at wearing socks is the feeling when complimented on such talents occur.

If questioned as to how one came about being so good at whatever they'd then feel like a fraud or phony in saying "I don't know I just am." something humility wouldn't allow knowing others have spent their whole lives trying to master something...
or making up why is something even worse in trying to avoid the "I don't know."

However coming to the realization that they spent possibly many lives to master such a thing... otherwise if they didn't the energy of all that action and work wouldn't have followed them as fruit. It is an important thing to grasp as it is something they earned as good.

So in the dying words of Timothy Leary "Why not?

I'm good at cooking and love to do it.

I have a degree in Information Technology Management. It's an old one, received 1998. I used it for a few years and enjoyed it while I did it, but I finally go tired of it and let it slide. People who know I have it still ask for help and I do what I can, but I have not used Microsoft products for years and do not particularly like doing anything technical with computers.

I'm still glad I have the basic knowledge. I'm the kind of person who wants to know the how and why of things, especially things that I am using. I wouldn't want to drive a car without understanding at least the basics of the internal combustion engine, the transmission and the braking system. So it is with computers; thanks to my education and degree I understand enough to use them effectively and can still do at least rudimentary maintenance and repairs.

But I do not like anything about it.

Well not a master but I used to weld for work, apprentice level but pretty competent. I had great accuracy in making ornamental grates and large architectural brackets that are a fussy fit where fixing it means cutting it apart and starting over.

I kind of grew to hate it as steel is so dirty, heavy, cold/hot and most of the job is the endless prep work of cutting and grinding the pieces in preparation for the actual welds. The welder sounds distract me terribly, I had to wear ear plugs and I have extremely light sensitive eyes so was wearing sunglasses under the welding helmet as even that fraction of a second was enough to cause a flash to reach my eyes and throw me off. Being female it was mighty hard even to find welding gloves that fit. I'm blind in one eye so have no depth perception plus severe astigmatism in my good eye so it was a very hard skill to learn but I'm pleased I got as far as I did and the skills apply to other things I do which is great.

I’d say I’m better than good. All I know is no matter how simple of a dish I make I am asked for a recipe every single time. I’m just tired of cooking. I’ve been doing it so long. My parents knew I was gifted. They begged me to go to cooking school I’m Europe and I absolutely refused. They begged me to make dishes for their friends.
Then I had my own family and cooked all the time, sometimes some incredible dishes. It wasn’t until my kids got older did they realize that other families didn’t eat that way. My daughter in college was shocked how her roommates boiled water in a microwave.

I am a pretty good painter, and relatively fast. I rarely tape anything, I can cut into trim really well. The roller does not have to spray when you roll with it. I do put down cotton dropcloths, I have three different sizes that will cover the floor in any size room. It takes patients and steady hands.

I really hate moving stuff around and covering things up though, there is no way to not get roller spray on a ceiling. I have had a couple of accidents over the year, a dog knocked over a half a gallon of paint and tracked it all over before I caught him, the homeowner had a job washing the dog and I got all the paint tracks and the paint cleaned off, those cloth cover cloths even stop a quart of paint from hitting the rug. That little dog sure made tracks on the vinyl kitchen floor.

Tile.
Bathrooms/showers/floors, backsplash in kitchens, etc.
We are remodeling the bathroom and my wife said she wants tile in the shower. I said I hate doing it and I will absolutely not do it.

We're going to pick out tile tomorrow.

Singing. I started out young, learning voice control, and practice often. I've been asked multiple times to sing for a church, and join barbershop quartet style groups. I always decline. I hate singing in front of audiences.

Leadership. I was promoted to Shop Super of a steel mill in the 80s. I do a good job of it, but I would rather lead from the side, and not be a focal point.

I also don't like the presentations and chairing meetings. I like to keep a low profile
