I recently posted a thread in the Movies Forum and I remembered a function, from an old forum I used to moderate, that would be wonderful to have here.

Basically, it's a simple hide box, that reveals its contents only when clicked.

It would be useful in said Movies forum, but also for jokes, puzzles, guessing games, live sports, etc. So, as an example, I post about a movie, but don't want to give away too much about the plot. I would add the Spoiler information between the hide tags, so a member would only see that additional info if they want to by clicking the hide box. Members could discuss the movie without giving the game away to others who follow the thread, but haven't watched it yet.

Unfortunately, the only downside is that it has to be policed by moderators. I often found myself with the added burden of fixing posts and instructing members on how to comply. Maybe it's not such a good idea...

Anyway, just a thought on how to enrich our ATS experience.

That's a good idea. That way you wouldn't be inhibited from posting, another wouldn't be inhibited from reading, and it would...flow.

Spoiler code is good for spoilers. This is the format for spoiler tags on another forum, for an example:

www.twtex.com...
[SPOILER="This is the title that will appear on the spoiler button"]This is the content that will be hidden.[/SPOILER]

It would be great in a forum for movies and entertainment, but when it's available, I've seen people over-use it in other topic discussions, for things that aren't spoilers, where it isn't really needed.

It's apparently not part of the standard bbcode so the sites using it have to create a custom code, or copy it from someone who's already made it.
