I am amazed how are they claiming that earthquake lights phenomenon is caused by exploading transformers if that is true then the power would have being out everywhere in those videos.

Transformers are pretty localized and the elecrical grid is on a series curcuit. It might knock out a neighborhood but it's not going to black out an entire city.

Now if a major substation was destroyed, yikes.

One other thing to take note of, we need to see some 6.0 coming soon. If we don't see 5-6 magnitude quakes soon, this is just a foreshock.

If you see those, this was it, thank the lord.

Pretty sure there were smaller earthquakes preceding this or it looked that way on the USGS SITE

I don't see any smaller quakes. It might be my settings. This thing came out of the blue.

We need a few more 5-6 quakes on the richter scale.

This is an area I don't watch closely.

4.2 happened. This is good news. A slip and now it's figuring itself out.

Give one of our 'quake guys' (TrueAmerican/TA) live seismo feed a look, you can watch the surrounding seismos in & around Mexico. It's fairly quiet down there right now (Mexico seismos are the center row, midway down)

Edit: Didn't know he doesn't do embed streaming, sorry. Just hop over there from that "Watch On YT link", it's worth it.

7.0? That's nothing for a subduction zone. The Middle America Trench. At the location of this quake the Cocos Plate is subducting under the North American.

Today is actually the 4 year anniversary of the Chiapas Earthquake. Which was over 60 times stronger at 8.2 magnitude.

In other words: It's Oaxaca It gets a very strong earthquake every 6 months to 2 years.

2012 - 7.4
2014 - 6.6
2014 - 7.2
2014 - 6.9
2017 - 8.2
2017 - 6.1
2018 - 7.2
2020 - 7.4
2021 - 7.0

Where did in the OP was it being described as historic or unprecedented? They didn't it was just reporting an event

Didn't see it posted next time I'll check and see if the post meets your criteria. Of course, if we waited to only post threads that are unprecedented or historic. Would there be hundreds if not thousands of COVID, Biden, and Trump political posts?
