Apparently Joe Biden's failed exit from Afghanistan has farther reaching implications than what is currently happening in the war torn country and what is happening to the Biden Administration's reputation here in the US.

Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal, seen as isolationist and "America first" by his European counterparts, will be putting new strees on European boards not seen since the last Democrat president, Barack Obama, botched the US response to Syria 8 years ago.

This is causing European countries to realize again just how insignificant their own military and diplomatic might is when the US decides to abandon them.

When US President Joe Biden finally broke his silence on the chaos unfolding in Afghanistan, European allies who'd had high hopes for a reset in the transatlantic alliance were left dismayed.

A crisis like the one unfolding in Afghanistan has, for some, hammered home the bleak reality that, without America, Europe's immediate ability to control its own destiny is limited.

Diplomats and officials all over the continent have privately expressed their sorrow that this is where we are: If the US says it's over, it's over.

They now fear the humanitarian and political consequences of mass migration from a country run by militants who've historically harbored terrorists and that is connected to mainland Europe by land.

Without the might of America to keep a lid on the situation, Europe is undeniably more exposed. As one EU official put it: "When America reversed course on Syria it sparked a crisis in Europe, not the US."

When former President Barack Obama U-turned on his decision to attack the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad following reports that he was gassing his own citizens, it had a knock-on effect still being felt today.

The border crisis first exasperated by Obama-era foreign policy and now being made much more difficult by Biden's military blunder in Afghanistan has not only humanitarian and safety implications for Europe; they also carry with them political implications. Implications that could push Europeans to adopt increasing more right wing and anti-EU ideologies.

EU officials are very aware of the myriad risks this anti-migrant sentiment poses.

Following the 2015 migrant crisis, far-right, Euroskeptic groups made significant political gains through anti-migrant and anti-EU rhetoric.

It helps the populist cause that historically both legal and illegal routes into Europe have been exploited by people seeking to carry out attacks in mainland Europe, though obviously these people represent a very small minority.

Beyond the EU, the crisis has exposed just how much Europeans relied on the might of American security through NATO.

"My fear is that if the world feels that it can no longer look with the same level of certainty and confidence to the US or NATO... we will see emboldened moves from actors hostile or unfriendly to a more united Europe," Roberta Metsola, a member of the European Parliament's committee that works on migration and border security, tells CNN.

Its ironic that for 4 years of the Trump Administration Euro leaders where afraid that Trump's populist and "America first" form of governance posed an existential threat to their way of life; but in just a few short months the Biden administration has shown the Europeans an even larger threat.

Sounds like an EU problem. Maybe they shouldn't put so much pressure on American taxpayers to defend their country. Sounds like it’s time to raise taxes in the EU to fund their own defense.

No this new Europe sentiment has to do with the way the US under the Biden administration unilaterally and chaotically withdrew from Afghanistan.

From London to Paris, Brussels to Berlin, the sudden fall of Kabul shone a light on Europe's limited diplomatic heft, military capacity, and political stability.

It matter very little when the US has its own directives.

I've touched on this before, with threads about an EU Military, but it never came to fruitition, based exactly on these scenarios.

From a Brit.

Good on the Yanks and never though I'd see it this way Biden too

It's about time places like the Germans, French, Italians Japanese etc having to defend themselves from BRICS rather than relying on mummy goose USA and her protection force all the time while these nations refuse to pay their fair share / dues to NATO for protection from Moscow and Beijing. They got the dosh and the tech to defend themselves, they could colonise the rest of the world if needed in no time if actually needed so can easily defend themselves. About time too.

About time the foreigners start making their own designs for F-35 /22 etc rather than relying on Yanks to do all the work

If I ran the USA being totally honest about it I'd say FU to the rest of the world, pull up the draw bridge, you got plenty of land and resources, get your factories going again, bering all your forces home, if so called allies like Germans don't want to pay a fair share for THEIR own defence then let Vlad and Xi have their way with the rest of the world.

Lo0k after yourselves and your own, you owe the world jack all, while those listed countries owe you everything yet can't be bothered even paying for it.

Oh................. and when enjoying your lives and free from the burden of being the worlds Police, if anything comes to threaten your nation just missile it from afar and carry on with your lives. Nonsense with modern tech can be eliminated from distance, no need to sail too far and get entrenched in foreign nonsense when you have plenty to do back home.

The US started and led the mission in Afghanistan so it's their decision (no matter how mistakenly) when they pull out , of course it could and should have been handled better and the chaos we've seen has caused America's allies to question the handling of the withdrawal but I don't think any real damage has been done to our "friendship" (subservience).

According to the CNN article it must not be enough.

That business with the "EU military" and its relationship to NATO is a disaster waiting to happen. Germany's "economic initiative" with the Ukraine that triggered a revolution and a civil war was just a foretaste.

Cheers

The CNN article doesn't quote Americans. The context of the article comes from European sources.

Multiple European officials and diplomats told CNN of their shock at Biden's assertion that the only US interest in Afghanistan was to neutralize the terrorists who attacked the US in 2001 and prevent further attacks on American soil.

----

Without the might of America to keep a lid on the situation, Europe is undeniably more exposed. As one EU official put it: "When America reversed course on Syria it sparked a crisis in Europe, not the US."

So the article doesn't really address any ramifications that the British will see from this botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Now that the UK has existed from the EU; are you still obligated to take your share of refugees or paying for their relocation?

But while we are at it...

for some

Diplomats and officials all over the continent

As one EU official put it

Roberta Metsola, a member of the European Parliament's committee

Those are indeed quite a few European officials...maybe all of them.

I was suggesting it might have been all Europeans....you know to over-exaggerate a bit.

But I think most of thinking Europe was already on alert after uncle Donny kind of went the solitary route.

Who suggested it was all Europeans?

From the CNN article Europe was already on alert since Obama's handing of Syria. Now that mistake is being exasperated by Biden's mistakes.

I think everything is planned and part of the NWO agenda.

All the countries are "talking" as usual, just the MSM is telling you different.
