20 years and thousand dead, trillions spent and Afghanistan is not one bit different to when we all went in there.

You know, without invading there, you yanks could have built a national health service.

Naw. We prefer to kill people with something more active than long waits and End of Life councils.

Yeah, like having such poor healthcare that your infant mortality rate approaches third world levels, yet you pay first world prices

"Taliban officials"... I just can't find any reasoning in that term for a terrorist. That's akin to saying "antifa officials" which wouldn't surprise me one damn bit to hear Biden refer to them in that manner. Our government needs to be stopped, ousted, and replaced ASAP. The entire bunch of them that have been in any office for more than 4 years.

The US paid the Afghanistan government to fall out, it's all a plan. The people definitely don't want the Taliban running the country, they tried to escape holding onto the sides of airplanes. The most powerful terrorist organization the world has ever seen is about to form in Kabul.

Yep. Too bad we don't have someone in office with enough balls to bomb the hell out of those terrorists.

Nice dig.

But incorrect.

Would have only paid for 270 days (9 months, 1 time) or so of healthcare here.

Much different scale than UK.

Good point though.

An awful lot of money was spent.

And far too many lives lost, especially in those early years.

Luckily only two last year. But still too many.

Would still be worth every penny to me if joe hadn't just abandoned 65 million human beings to the brutal taliban for want of promised air support.

what I want to know is , why did all the men attempt to flee , why didnt they take the US weapons and fight the Taliban if they are such evil bastards.

Are Afghans against defending their homeland against tyranny ?

To avoid certain slaughter.

What would you do if commanding a company of 50 facing 5000 rapidly approaching taliban with better weapons than your own and no hope of air support.

THIS is what joe just did.

according to global population stats there are

8,460,486 males between the age of 15-64 in Afghanistan
if you half that then there are probably about 4 million of fighting age , half that again as some may not be physically fit enough
so thats 2 million somewhat able bodied males to defend Afghanistan

so where are they all ?

Good question.

I don't quite understand that one either.

For some reason raising and training an 'army' (many were more like cops) of 300k there was very challenging for last 4 administrations.

Guessing something about their culture, but don't really know.

Maybe we just aren't very good at nation building.

Does that mean it's ok to double cross them by withholding promised air support?

Or that they deserve the brutality joe just sent their way?

Or that we shouldn't try to do something about it?

If we don't, who will?

Most are in the Taliban. It's what most of these people don't understand. They can't imagine they want to live under a tribal driven theocracy, but they actually do.

"The US force projection was holding that country together and when it was removed it fell apart"

You are getting close now.

Be careful, you might actually stumble into the truth.

Which type of 'US force projection' was recently removed causing ANA defenses to fall apart?

Come on, you know the answer.

Did we suddenly remove a bunch of tanks?

Infantry?

Recon?

Artillery?

NO.

They were were still there.

Some are at the airport this very minute

Joe renegged on promised air support.

Thats it.

Nothing else was necessary to ensure a rapid taliban victory.

Joe knew it when he made the decision.

It is WHY joe made the decision.

No other explanation will hold water.

'

And you are missing the point. If we have to give them constant Air support forever, than it is a failure and we would never be able to really leave. In order to have Air support you have to have some troops and bases to maintain the air support,

And all the candy in the world didn't really win us any hearts and minds; in Afghanistan or Viet nam.

Pretty silly that you think that was the objective of candy.

Was just something nice to do while walking around to make themselves visible.

Because taliban had no interest in coming out to fight when air support is available.

Taliban is apparently more intelligent than you.

It's silly you think the US government and military does nice things without some kind of pay off. There is lots of countries and people we could help and save, but we don't, because they are not worth anything to us from a geopolitical or resource perspective.

Nonsense.

They had multiple opportunities to simply vote for taliban and never got more than 7% of vote.

There is a huge difference between liking their historic tribal culture and wanting the taliban.

Just absurd.

Please stop repeatedly spreading this false information here.

I thought the US mantra was " we dont deal with terrorists"

Was always the mantra.

For good reasons.

Has always been quietly flexible.

Also for good reasons.

Not saying right or wrong.

Just that it is.

And it's always been bullcrap. We have and do support many terrorists and dictators around the world. We have used a lot of terrorist groups against other nations like the Russians. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that BS that always bites us in the ass in the end.

You are so full of crap. You know damn well they couldn't vote for the Taliban. You should stop spreading the false information. Look who the hell the Taliban are. It is their people. They are home grown freedom fighters, former mujahedeen.

You do understand that airplanes can fly over borders, right?

Even over open water?

Ever hear about our carrier fleet?

Or bases in the region?

Maybe should read up on modern aeroplanes.

Sounds like your knowledge may be from 1921.

This is 2021.

Or am I lost?

Oh crap, please tell me I'm in 2021.

I'm gonna get fired if I screw up the year again.

Time travel fascists are real picky about that stuff.

maybe just to put things into perspective

operation Chariot aka the raid on st nazaire

saw 612 UK troops pitted against a 5000 german troops

fair enough the british army has had amazing training and resources
but still when faced against insurmountable odds things can be achieved
even though the raid was partially successful and many lost their lives they still went up against the odds for the greater good.
