I differentiate between socialism and welfarism and understand the difference in mechanisms for both. Most do not.

IMO opinion the difference in socialism and communism is this

communism the control is IN YOU FACE to such a degree that even the most ignorant ranting fool knows it.

socialism is the control is the same as communism, but there are enough FOOLS that believe they have control and OPENLY VOTE for those supporting it. while willfully ignoring the rights and FREEDOMS are going away/gone..
those in power have no need as yet to show they are totally dominating / ruling.
they get their willing ignorant stooges (be voters, media, teachers unions, ect) to squash any resistance..

Social programs are not socialism.

The government MUST provide services to the population. i.e., military, fire services, police... That's the basic function of a government.

It's when that government oversteps it's boundaries that it becomes socialism. Universal healthcare? Everyone in the United States already had that. It's called an emergency room, and NOBODY could be turned away for care. In fact, if you didn't have health insurance, the hospital would basically write it off as a loss and be reimbursed by the government anyways. They'd put you on a payment plan and eventually stop sending you bills.

Why in the hell would I want the government to know my medical conditions? That is supposed to be between me and my doctor, nobody else.

Once the government steps in, you get # like "large" soft drinks being banned.

It's none of the government's damn business if I want to drink a big gulp. I can go buy a 12 pack of coke and drink the entire thing in a single sitting, but I can't get a large coke with my burger and fries?

Makes sense.

If you want to see socialism, enlist in the military. A janitor makes the same money as a weapons tech as long as they are the same rank. Time in service is all that matters, not merit. Everything is provided for you: food, housing, clothing, medical care... And it's all at the expense of your rights.

Just sign on the line and you, too, can "serve" your country by invading a sovereign country to get cheap oil or cheap heroin for your countrymen.

In my opinion, extreme socialism leads to communism.I am not
an expert on socialism, but I am an outspoken mama on the net.

Pure socialism is when the people own everything, including private property. Pure communism is when the government owns everything, and there is no such thing as private property. One thing is NOT like the other.

The only difference between Socialism and Communism is existence of private property LOL.

Think of it this way.

Capitalism and Communism are on opposite ends of a spectrum. Socialism is the "necessary" transitory step in between.

Don't argue with me, argue with Karl Marx.

Feel free to expound on other differences you think would add to thread's premise, that the USA uses a blended governmental system, of democracy, capitalism and socialism.

Social programs are not socialism.

When they are established by the government and paid for with tax dollars, they are.

It's when that government oversteps it's boundaries that it becomes socialism.

Is that what you think Social Security is, an overstep of boundaries by the government?

Socialism doesn't guarantee anything to the common people.

I submit Cuba as an example.

Cuba went full on communistic dictatorship. Democracy and capitalism do guarantee something, when using socialism as a tool to mitigate some sort of bottom line of equality.

Democracy and capitalism prefer individual liberty given to you by your creator. With the idea that a strong individual can best serve the community.

Difference is in a socialist country, you don't get to choose what social programs to participate in.

There has never been a purely communist country. You keep speaking like you're either or, which is wrong.

The military isn't a socialist organization.

For God sake.

Of course it is, who pays for it?

LOL
Is that they mean when they say "We're not doing socialism correctly".

In the USA, we use a blend of democracy, capitalism and socialism to achieve "a more perfect union".

Karl Marx supported communism, not socialism.

Now you're really making yourself look silly just stop. You have about 10 more books to read first lol

Karl Marx was the father of communism, which is the opposite of capitalisms. Karl Marx promoted communism, hated capitalism and promoted its abolishment through violent revolution.

This thread isn't about Karl Marx or Marxism or revolution. It's about how the USA is not purely capitalist, nor is it purely socialistic. The USA is a representative republic that employs a blend democracy, capitalism and socialism to achieve its goal of forming a more perfect union.

The OP highlights Americans who have failed to grasp that truth.

I'm guessing you're a middle school / high school student, or english isnt your first language. Because you're confusing some basic tenets of Communism, Socialism, and Capitalism.

Does this thread require those tenets to be delved into to support the examples of stupidity in the OP, or to reinforce the premise of this thread, that the USA uses a blended economy, of capitalism and socialism, in order to form a more perfect union? Or, do you disagree with the thread's premise, and suppose the examples in the OP are enlightened individuals?

A tax payer funded endeavor does not make it socialism.

Please tell me what private sector company was usurped by the presence of the US Army? Who did they nationalize in order to exist?

If you have a correction to make, make it, instead of throwing's around ad hominins to try to appear intellectually superior.

If you think ATS needs to be educated by a deep die into communisms, Karl Marx and Marxism, socialism and capitalism, start a thread. This thread isn't about Karl Marx, Marxism or communism.

You missed the point of the OP hard.

Paraphrasing: "Take large private corporations and hand them to the workers to stop their socialist agenda"

Surely you can see the irony in that.
