Most new radar systems are moving to AESA, or Active Electronically Scanned Array. That means that instead of the antenna moving to steer the beam, you steer it electronically. There's no need for a moving antenna anymore, and you get a more effective radar. You can steer a lot of energy into a fairly narrow beam, or cover a wide area. They're also called phased array radar.

A good reason to construct new carries is problems with the old ones...

Black smoke has been seen billowing from China’s first assault carrier in Shanghai. The new Type-075 carrier, which is similar to the U.S. Navy’s America Class assault carriers, is designed to carry helicopters and hovercraft to support amphibious landings.

If they are building them as good as these buildings, there isn't anything to worry about...

Looks like a fire associated with the catapults.

Shandong doesn't have catapults. It's a STOBAR carrier. The Type 003, which is the one in the OP, is the first one that will have catapults.

They're not buildings, they're investments, the ghost cities are key to Chinese astronomical growth, they have a $54 TRILLION housing bubble which relies solely on maintaining and continuing the building boom, which is dependent on more building boom and solid supply chains

should the supply chains struggle or slow down, RIP CHINA

They are building stuff so quick

They commissioned something like 40 Destroyers and frigates this year alone. America cannot compete with this sort of industry...its insane the speed at which they build things.

Real possibile we will be looking at a Chinese Navy with 1500 ships in a few years time while we still have 300.

RIP China

The United States will absolutely fall first. I promise you that.

China will have a window where it will be the sole super power on this planet for a few decades

They still have to be able to pay for, and sustain them. The only way any navy ends up with 1500 ships is by having a lot of small ships.

The Type 075 is a different class than the Shandong. It's their newest class of carrier, similar to the America/Wasp/Essex the US uses. They didn't have a previous type along those lines that I recall.

As for the Shandong, if that is damage, it was pretty superficial. She departed again for exercises near their artificial islands, replacing Liaoning.

In response to China we have constructed HMAS 'Sydney Harbor'.

Designed to protect the harbor and in good weather conditions scoot up north and inside the barrier reef. Actually designed by the airforce.
