Let’s set a date……let’s not watch/read any media, any news, any internet……for a week…..switch off everything…….then see what happens……let’s set a date…….we all log off, switch off and just do your life…..would be very interesting to see what we do when not being brainwashed into modern media……

Can you do it….!??

I tried to cut 90% for several months. (If you work in a certain field, that's exceedingly hard to do.)

Result?

Came back to the same bizarre and dysfunctional world.

Hiding behind a tree doesn't put the forest fire out.

But hey, on average, I'd say I lowered my personal daily outrage meter. So there's that.

Interesting idea.
I stopped watching TV a while back but still see lots of news online so haven't really escaped the hypno-box.
Discussions about news and clips etc.
It's better having short bursts and not letting the TV rattle away in the background because even when not concentrating on it, the messages still get in.

I'm reading fewer books these days, too and I used to read a lot. Spending time online is still reading I suppose but lacks the depth involved.

Having said that, ATS has such interesting content it's hard to stop!

I stopped watching tv a couple of months ago. Got rid of my cable channels. Unfollowed all news on social media except ATS. I figure if something is important enough I'll hear about it.
I immersed myself in things that made me happy.
Made all the difference. I don't miss it one bit.

I stopped tv about 13 years ago now, but then moderns phones gave me access to information……I’ve tried to limit mainstream media as I think it’s so dysfunctional and biased, hence why I came to ats……

But so much Information on the internet it’s gotten pretty hard to discern what is real and what is fake…..

Just look at the ufo phenomenon……there was a lot of untainted research and videos, untouched by photoshop etc, but almost everything I see, regardless of subject just seems to be fake…..there have been some really good posts, just recently as well…..but the majority just seem like fake news, so I was thinking, get off everything for a week and see if we come back with a better view and not a more skewed view because we are constantly barraged with info that either is or isn’t fake

I have done this before....going up into the mountains.
Then I came back and spent God knows how much time trying to catch up on everything I missed while unplugged for that week.

A week unplugged was great. But jumping back into like I did.....not so great. lol I learned for me, in my life, moderation is best.

I did this back in 2017 for a 6 month journey + No phone except for an occasional text to let a few people know I'm still alive & kicking. All my body stress pains in my neck, shoulders, and back disappeared. The fog in my brain seemed to have evaporated too. Truly felt free from nearly everything. Then slowly inched my way back to so-called civilization and gradually got sucked back into the media vortex of despair. But, I didn't lose my sense of humor. There is this thing called humor, it's a great thing. There is also this thing called smiling and laughing, even better things. These "things" are good for the Soul. Laugh often and try to make others laugh too. Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.

Good advice.

We are often accused of being into doom porn but I find myself laughing at the absurdity of more things than letting the world get me down.

Better to put your effort into doing what you can for the people around you than trying to change the whole world.

Small steps....

I have and I realized that if I only had done that from March 2020 to now, NO pandemic wouldve existed at all....

Why stop there? How about 3 years starting tomorrow. And you can't use social media platforms either or have apps like NewsBreak on your phone.

I've been working on my bugout bag again, only because it looked like it was going to storm bad but not a drop or gust came from it. But i figured I have time so why not finish what I started.

My point is I thought about my radio and decided I don't want it in my bugout bag. Call it careless but man survived how long without radios...

I was born in the wrong time period.

Huh. Well that's food for thought.

I did leave my tv off one day last week for about 7 or 8 hours. It did feel weird. I've gotten accustomed to having it on when I'm awake and I leave it on for the dog.

I'll start July 1st. And try it a week and see what happens.

I moved to a isolated area back in the 90's... No TV, No radio...

Found myself doing more chores, getting yard work done. Spending a lot more time outdoors... At first, it sucked... But after a couple of weeks it didn't bother me....

I'd probably die if I did this. Lets see, fall off a roof or cut trees down and have them crush me, or cut my fingers off with saws making furniture. or just screw up my back hauling firewood out of the woods with the cart....I could till another garden spot too and twist my back out trying to maneuver the tiller.

Naw, it won't kill me, just cause me a lot of pain and suffering.

Mine broke a couple of years ago and wouldn't tune into the aerial.
It just became a monitor for when I fancied watching a dvd.
I've got a rubbish little tablet that I use for YouTube and the phone I'm using now.

Books were always my thing but I seem to be pottering around doing other things so a good interview or lecture/presentation suits me better because I don't need to watch a guy at a podium or a couple on comfy chairs talking. I just listen while doing things. I do watch other stuff when I've got the time . I feel sorry for the TV addicts in lockdown.

Had a back injury a few years ago and got stuck in bed with a TV and a load of box set dvds. for months. I'm sure it did me no good !

I had the same experience a few years ago. It was nice to have the outrage meter lowered during the abstinence.

Today, though, the outrage meter will still be there, because of the covid-19 bullsnip. I tried going to a doc appointment with my 77 year-old mom today, who has recently been diagnosed with kidney failure due to cancer. I wasn’t allowed because “only the patient in the room because of covid.” I explained that my
mom is 77 and has kidney doc, chemotherapy doc, heart doc, neuro doc (because during this she had two strokes), and it’s a little hard for her to keep track of all of that when she’s, you know, dying. They still said no. If that doesn’t outrage a person, they’re not human or logical. Anyway, I snuck in the locked door when someone came out and found my mom’s room and went in.

I've gone at least 10 years now. I watch horror movies, Handmaid's Tale, The Last Kingdom, and that's about it.

ETA: you said "any internet". Probably not happening.

Aside from industry news, which has lately become a little political, the only place I ingest media from is this site. The rest of my internet time is game streamers, audio books, and memes. Wife doesn't care about politics so we don't talk about it. The only person that I do talk politics with is my father and he's a lot more passionate about the subject, so I just let him vent from time to time.

It's an easy trap to get stuck in.

My first eight or nine months here I had nothing but my clock radio and a phone. My neighbor had given me her wifi code so I spent a few months watching movie after movie, i think I watched the first two John Wicks about twenty times apiece. Then I realized I was falling back into a hole I struggled to get out of once before.

I'd much rather watch documentaries and certain interviews than watch anything Follywood makes. But like I said, it's easy to get stuck. Usually I keep the TV on MeTV and Antenna TV. And some PBS even though i despise the network. I watch Bob Ross and Antiques Roadshow and NOVA, usually.

I dont think that will do you much good at least it wont as long as you keep living in a big city. I have stopped watching TV 20 years ago and replaced it with Internet because on that they cannot force feed me. Or at least they could not but right now i am TRANSITIONING (Yeah i said it !) from youtube to

www.odysee.com

which is way better then YT, no censoring of anyone.
At least oj the net i can choose to watch what i watch and no commercials etc. And i can look into things for myself and find out and decide instead of tv telling it is so.

But not being aware at all what is going on around you that does not sound good or safe. In fact i actually stopped watching TV and started using the net to actually know what is actually going on around me as controlled media only tell you what they want you to know and twists and turns everything around.

I think that is the better option unless you aim to disconnect from society competently but you would need to move out of any cities and also far away from them.

I've been saying, even here on ATS, for some time now, when you turn off the TV, the computer and the radio and take a walk down the street it's amazing as 95% of the worlds supposed problems just vanish into thin air.
