Chaos erupted at the end of the second day of the second impeachment trial of now former President Donald Trump as House Democrats were forced to withdraw from the record a statement a GOP senator said was falsely attributed to him after Senate Democrats lost control of the proceedings while they sought to wrap up for the day.

Specifically, the incident that distracted from the Democrats’ case against Trump began when Democrat impeachment manager Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) recalled public reporting that then-President Trump allegedly called Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) by accident when he supposedly meant to call Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) while senators were in a temporary holding room after being evacuated from the Senate floor during the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.

This led to a remarkable moment where Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT), the president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate who is also presiding over the impeachment trial of Trump since Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts declined to preside, given that Trump is no longer in office, made an unclear ruling apparently rejecting Lee’s motion. Lee then appealed his ruling and sought a vote in the Senate to override Leahy, and after several confusing moments the Senate began voting on Lee’s objection to Leahy’s unclear ruling. After a couple senators’ names were called when the clerk began calling the roll of Senators to vote on Lee’s objection, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke up and intervened to stop the vote. Schumer used a tactic called noting the absence of a quorum–essentially pausing the Senate’s formal business as televised for the nation while senators and staff handle a dispute or negotiation off camera–to “work this out.”

I also find it laughable that the SCOTUS isn't presiding. Total farce. Congress should be disbanded ... all laws struck from the books ... and people need to think about 'stuff' before anyone is sent back to DC to replace these clown-asses.

John Robert's wants nothing to do with the clown show as he knows it is unconstitutional to impeach a former president.

If this trial is going to continue, the Chief Justice of the USSC should be presiding.
The Impeachment was of the sitting POTUS, so the trial should be held for the Impeachment of a sitting POTUS regardless that he is no longer in office.
The House can't impeach a person that doesn't hold office, so how can the Senate try a person that isn't a current Federal official?

Well, it's the Democrats and they change or make up the rules as they go along. Whatever will let them continue with this farce is what they'll try to push through. The whole thing is about keeping Trump out of office.
The big question is : What are they so afraid of ?
You notice they let their own cities burn for months and did nothing, but when Conservatives pushed back, it's suddenly fences, razor wire and the National Guard gets called out to protect them.

It seems to me that the takeaway here is that the Democrats have introduced false "evidence" into the trial, refused to withdraw that false "evidence," and are fighting efforts to have the false "evidence" withdrawn. And this is after failing to admit exculpatory evidence, in a trial of dubious legitimacy.

It's your basic Star Chamber.

And everyone knows it. Some like it.

I have always said that the movie Idiocracy was not a work of diction, but a documentary of the future.

These absolute low-lifes need to be fired. Every single one of them who didn’t come out publicly and declare what a total unconstitutional and wasteful exercise this “impeachment” farce is. Which means every single Congressman needs to go.

Our country is a joke now. There is no rule of law. And we only have ourselves to blame, for letting it get to this point.

A good portion of the country is just willfully stupid now. They refuse to question a single thing and happily beg to be told what to think. That is our real problem. These people who now LOVE being filled with hate and fear; they’re addicted to it now and they aren’t going to give it up.

I’ve been wondering as well what they are so afraid of. We know they have wanted Trump gone before he even took office, because they (the uni-party which pretends to be “Democrats” and “Republicans”) didn’t want him coming in and changing the way they do business. But it seems that there is something else about which they are all deathly afraid, as this is just over the top, trying to make it so that Trump can’t ever again come near DC.

What is it? What has them so terrified?

I watched this on the livestream I was tuned into. The people of this country shouldn't have to deal with such an inept and incompetent government. Blatant lies all over the place. The democrats are everything they claimed Trump was. Everything. It's ridiculous and they should all impeach themselves.

Notice how the #Scummedia has been silent on the Myanmar coup since it first started? It has a similar vibe to the banana republic behavior of our own deepstate run snipshow of a criminal mafia running congress. Not quite the same, but many similarities.

Guys you know the regime in charge border on dictatorship so they have capital and lots of EOs to change how to circumvent the laws.

Yet in exploring the claim above, I found this.

"The impeachment manager correctly and accurately quoted a newspaper account," Raskin said of the comments and CNN article in question. "We're happy to withdraw it on the grounds that it is not true.
