Chinese Submariners Patrolling South China Sea Suffer 'Serious' Psych Problems, Study Finds

Hallucinating and delusional Chicom submariners is just what we needed. 🙄

The study found that "Submariners with a college education or higher had greater odds of experiencing mental health problems." The Institute of Military Health Management at Naval Medical University in Shanghai, China assessed the "self-perceived" mental health of Chinese submariners. Life aboard a submarine is no picnic for anyone, but it appears it is even more stressful on a Chinese sub in the South China Sea.

I've known two submariners over the years, both quite well.

Both were mad as #ing hatters in entirely different ways.
Both died relatively young as well.

As long as these aren't "boomer" subs, let the Chicom crews go insane.

That's the important kind of information all of the articles on this lack.

The recycled air, coupled with being forced to wear face diapers, is too much for anyone. I wonder how our US Navy submarine guys are faring?

"self-reported"

I wonder if there is an incentive to do that to get different/better assignments?

You could be onto something. I also wonder if reporting the symptoms would get one of them a change in assignment

Well, that covers 2. Only 10,000 or so more to go who are currently serving, probably 50,000 or more prior service, so your 2 must prove the case.

Insane? Why would you say that?

Let "Monkey See Monkey Do" go insane before they manage to organize and do great harm.

Do you really think they have a choice in the matter of their own destiny?

You think China wants a crazy person trapped in a tin can at the bottom of the ocean with dozens of men?

I'm not sure they care all that much. The only way they'd care is if they thought crazy folks were an especial danger to the boat.

Women yes (maybe); not men of the dozens in number. China ultimately would like AI doing all of the dirty work; humans are too unpredictable.

The boat must become smarter than the humans that man it. I can see that as a goal.

Would that be the definition of a danger to the boat?

The CCP is many things, but they aren't stupid.

I'm betting these guys self-report, taking the social credit hit and the new ditch digging assignment with glee.

Danger to the boat would be something that could sink it and be a serious threat of it. If all you were talking about was a risk to other crew, they wouldn't care.

It's not like they don't have millions more where those came from.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a tube full of seaman.

On the old tv show "JAG" submarines were talked about as smelling like fuel inside. That sounds like it would be bad for young brain cells.

I know/have known a lot of people.
Only two of those were submariners.
They were both undoubtedly mad as hatters.
That is the only point I was making - that you have chosen to make more of it says far more about you than it does about anything else.
