I'm with Denzel on this

I don't think he cares if they call him a sellout or anything else. And it's about time someone with Credibility and Respect spoke up on this Social Issue.

“I have the utmost respect for what they do, for what our soldiers do, [people] that sacrifice their lives,” Washington tells Yahoo Entertainment during a recent interview. “I just don’t care for people who put those kind of people down. If it weren’t for them, we would not have the freedom to complain about what they do.”

His interview talking about the MSM is also fascinating; this is just a person with morals, integrity and brains being honest.

Wish more would follow, but I’d assume whoever did would be canceled or silenced as well...

If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

While I believe there needs to be some true police reform in America, I agree with him completely.

Only someone very sick (mentally) thinks Law Enforcement and our Military have not been important in enabling the freedoms we enjoy.

Can't cancel one of the highest paid, most well known black actors in the industry......it is the only reason his interviews and political views never get any coverage.

While I couldn't care less what actors think, it is funny to see which ones get media coverage.

Woods and Voight get ostracized.....

Mister Washington is one of the best actors in the 21st century.

I do admire him.

In some contexts he is right. But the truth is far more nuanced than this. Police and soldiers shouldn't be vilified but they don't serve the same purposes in our society and shouldn't be treated the same.

We don't send cops out to engage in combat. To kill or be killed. That isn't their job.

Increasingly, the role of law enforcement has become a far more prominent problem as we have people who aren't trained well for the dynamics of the situations they will face in our society entrusted with the ability and authority to take life. This is to the point of absurdity with how restrictive legal concepts like qualified immunity have become.

COVID restrictions and the enforcement thereof have shown me all I need to know about what the real dynamics are between police and citizens. I don't like it.

No amount of "thin blue line" flag waving will stop the cops from enforcing the will of the state against you.

One thing will make cops rethink their loyalties to the state, if the get defunded like BLM wants, lets see what will happen in some of those states that promised to do just that.

Being a cop is a thankless job. People are quick to demonize them but then always want to run to the police when the SHTF. Most cops just want to go to work and make it home safe. The average SJW doesn't realize what kind of dirt bags cops deal with on a daily basis.

Bad cops definitely spoil it for the good ones though.

All we'll get from that is a worse police force.

Something will replace those police forces. Instead of fixing the system we have, defunding the police will just result in a new "police" force that will likely be partisan and extremely corrupt by any standard.

You see this in countries who have political upheavals like this. South American socialist governments come to mind.

I think we're from two different worlds. I live about 50 miles from Chicago. There's a shooting (not a Police involved one) on the news almost every single day. If you think the Police aren't dealing with a war, I don't think you live anywhere near Chicago. And the Police can't seem to "enforce the will of the state" like you think they can and keep people from shooting each other.

And now Chicago is dealing with Carjackers on top of that.

Trucking companies have already said they won't deliver to cities that Defund the Police.

So we're going to ignore all the unconstitutional crap the cops have done to people throughout this COVID-19 saga?

We're not from "two different worlds." We're both in the same one and two things can be true at once. Your experience and those of others.

Am I talking about people being murdered while you're talking about something that will be settled with a lawsuit? Has someone been shot for not wearing a mask? I know there's people that have been assaulted for telling someone to wear a mask.

Powerful words from Denzil.

"If it weren't for them, we would not have the freedom to complain about what they do"

Let that sink in a minute.....

I thought that was a strange line, too. I understand his thought, but it's wrong. We have the 2nd. We've seen how easy the police lose control over and over for years now.

The police need to uphold their obligatuons or have actual consequent penalties.
