The notification system uses Bluetooth technology to let you know if you have come in close contact for more than 15 minutes with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. If a person does test positive, they are given a code and can voluntarily and anonymously let others know through the app. The notification will then inform other uses of the date of exposure and instructions on what to do next.

I think this is a good thing. This works in S. Korea. I don't know if it will work here.
People are worried about security & privacy but a lot of people give those up with google/fb etc..

From what I've read each state decides if they will roll this out. It uses Bluetooth & radio signals to
determine if you've been within 6ft for longer than 15 min with a positive person.

I guess Wisconsin health officials didn't think vaccines were coming so soon either.

Well that will kill the wireless accessory market. Everyone will turn off their Bluetooth and WiFi connections. Without those, it will be much harder to locate in short range. They will only know your location within a block or so.

The anonymous bit is a joke.

If it asks for your location no doubt it'll have access to your contacts, photos and microphone as well.

Thank god!

I was wondering when Big Brother and the Authoritarian state would make an appearance.

At this time it's still voluntary.

Bluetooth & Radio

That's triangulation tracking with cellphones.
Can't shut it off.
I will microwave my phone and cancel with Verizon before I join in that sh!tshow.
It's about time anyway.
I'll just swich to old stand alone, non cell gps like Garmin.
Phones have turned into handcuffs and time sucks anyway.

Despite these successes, there have been voices expressing concern about the level of detail released by health authorities. In one case, netizens appear have to identified a couple engaged in an extramarital affair by matching their trace records.

I don't have a cell phone. I rarely leave my house. Are they monitoring the FedEx, UPS, USPS or Amazon drivers?

Pizza delivery personnel too? I'm in Pennsylvania not Wisconsin though.😞🤔

I have one, but I don't take it outside the house -- it serves as the house phone. And on days off, hubs has taken to leaving his phone home to dissuade himself from answering work calls when he should be having downtime out & about.

That's bound to realllly chap some pro-tracking asses on here, lol.

Not yet, but the way the delivery drivers deliver package here we have nothing to worry about.
They just chuck the packages in the middle of the lawn or driveway.

We have it here in California. It's completely voluntary. I downloaded the app to my iPhone a few weeks ago, Haven't received an alert yet.

"Hey! Is this thing on?"

This reminds me of the old movie Cat's Eye where the one story was about the creepy smoking cessation program with the shock room.

And they could find you cheating ... anywhere ...

Do you have GPS in your car. Eye in sky....they don't need your phone. The technology that is apparent is already obsolete. Welcome to the monkey house!
