I've spent time in both, yes they are very different. China had fewer rules and regulations than the EU, and has more free speech when it comes to things like sex and gender identity but less when it comes to politics.

There are power hungry people in the EU that do not want any countries leaving them, they will try to crush the country trying to leave. I cannot see why the people of any of the EU countries would approve of their action, they also will not be able to leave if they want. A bunch of bullies run the EU, they are not for the people of those countries, they want to be totalitarians, no countries people have any right to try to quit is what I am seeing.

This is my opinion, but I think a lot of people in the UK and other countries share this opinion. The UK is not my country, I will let their people deal with this and choose if they want to belong or not. It is not really my business to be involved in their countries politics just as it is not Europes business to interfere in our countries politics.

Is the EU a different form of Chinese communism ?

No , they are a fragile Super State that fears a domino effect if we (Britain) leave , they keep on extending the talks because they hope the British government will blink first and accept their offer of Vassel state status , that isn't going to happen so with with a little tear in our eye we will leave their corrupt nepotistic union without a deal and the HMS Great Britain will sail its own course as the EU crumples and falls into the ocean.

Nothing like Chinese communism , more like a Capitalist Utopia gone bad.

Do they deserve the right to choose how they act?

Or are we offended they don't do what we say?

Accept this tid bit , Mate How do you figure Europe is a Capitalist Utopia gone bad ?

Europe is almost totally Socialist with the one exception being Switzerland.

I jumped his ass months ago for the same crap. A prolific poster
is fine. But not at all when every post displays a lack of the same
integrity and respect for the guidelines that all other members
abide by. If not for those guidelines ATS wouldn't be what it is to
both readers and members.

I don't think he understands that when most members click. The first
thing that goes thru my head anyway is

JERK!

Not really , Britain has a right wing government and most European countries are Left Right coalitions , I'd hardly call Eastern European Member Countries "Socialist" either.

That's just another example of the conflation in terms.

Most European nations are not socialist. The Spanish government is outright socialist. Most governments in Europe are market friendly and follow welfarist policies that can't only exist in market economies.

This is, of course, subject to change like all things. But as it stands now there are few outright socialist governments in Europe.

China, muct like Russia, and honestly, much like the USSR ... aren't actual attempts at Marxist Communism which is a philosophical rather than an economic theory. They are and have been oligarchies.

From what I've seen, the EU to date is a trade alliance that has already expanded beyond what it can sustain.

Most modern world economies are mixed economies which mean that there is some level of government ownership/interference/regulation and some degree of free market forces.

The EU isn't Chinese. The EU isn't communist.

I voted brexit and it had very little to do with social policies, in fact I saw a lot of merit in being an EU citizen. I enjoyed freedom of movement, strong citizen and workers rights, powerful consumer rights and protections. I could in theory live anywhere in Europe and be free to own businesses, land and have rights to residential status including all of the 'socialist' ideals that come along with it such as safety nets and access to medical care.

I'd say (opinion) that our government is complicit in such a pitiful display of severing ties. There's nothing great about their moves over the last decade especially in the brexit days. In fact I'd argue strongly that many of our values that were held to a higher standard than the EU have fell beneath in comparison.

Anyways see? Content. Please provide reasoning to your assertions. It's not decent of you to expect the reader to know just what the hell you're on about when you're posting vague threads.

Strong protectionist policies, especially in regards to consumers. That's not a bad thing.

There's been plenty of high profile cases ensuring market integrity. Where the EU fails is holding nations accountable to wrong doing. The stuff the city of London has gotten away with for instance. Then again the Greek buyout raised my brows too.

Personally I want accountability, its why I voted brexit. It'll all be for nothing if we can't reign in our dodgy economic activities and politics. The EU was actually great for individuals and small groups.
