Capitalism is great, BUT, Drudgereport is a so-called 'news' site.

It seems that 'pay to play' for news would be characterized more as 'advertising', more accurately, not 'news' so much at that point any longer.

I used to write for various newspapers.

The first thing a newspaper does in page design is put its adverts on the page as that's the part that makes money. News comes a distant second as newspapers lose money writing it and lose money selling the paper. The only thing that keeps them afloat is advertising and only news that doesn't piss off advertisers is published.

In this case it's 'churnalism' rather than journalism, though 90% of news media is also churned up versions of stories.

It's not a good thing and as the quality of news has nosedived with its commodification but it is the same principle pretty much all news media follow.
