Yes I did.
What are the chances this film will have the opposite effect?

We should just pretend like it's not happening. That usually stops things dead in their tracks.

To be fair, kids will imitate what they see adults doing on social media, youtube, ect...

MindBodySpirit has a good comment. The film is just trying to depict whats already happening.

I think you're being naive if you think netflix is being more provocative than what's already been happening for many years.

It's just the expansion and ease of access of the internet.

Yeah so many innocent ways to portray what you are trying to say is wrong while showing it to the public!

I also wholeheartedly disagree with you.
This is literally the most obvious wrong thing and I won't be making excuses for it. Why twerking? Why not ballet?
Twerking is shaking you ass to get a shag, like the most basic monkey. It's not pretty, it's not adorable, it's not for kids and it's frankly turning back time to when we lived in caves.
The whole twerking sheet is not appropriate for anyone, let alone 11 year olds. Why is the film for 17 year olds upwards?
If it was 'in' for teens to stick anything up their backsides, nobody would say 'it's just teens expressing themselves'. Sometimes adults have to step in and keep the line of acceptance at a normal level. Not everything teens come up with is brilliant or right. Their brains aren't even fully formed. We have a duty to protect them until they can see what they are doing through adult eyes.

That's possible I suppose. But how do you raise awareness then? It appears many need to be shown to become concerned. It's not necessarily about sexualisation - the same seems to be true for animal abuse for example. I would never willingly watch a documentary showing real animal abuse. Nor will I watch a twerking kids movie. For me it is enough to read about it to form an opinion but apparently that's not how it works for most people.

On a side note: I hate watching YouTube videos to get information on a topic. I prefer articles, blog posts, etc.

A question though for those that claim the sexualisation of children is a new thing. Isn't cheerleading highly sexualised and yet nobody seems to bat an eye at that despite it often being practiced by many preteen girls? I am in Europe and my impression about that comes from American movies and TV shows. So the picture I have may be somewhat distorted.

Sure sure.

At least in India angry mobs go after the pedis and castrate them, as opposed to holder of the highest office in America to wish pedos well.

Netflix simply know their markets. They could have had one poster, but felt the need for a more appropriate one for America.

It’s good that you can reduce children’s well-being as a political tool.
Trust it doesn’t matter what the political affiliation of a president may be, praising a pedo is all the info I need about said prez

There could be more than a royalty check if.... You can write and are articulate; all media is looking for content and it's not all industry big dogs. The alternative indy world is in full success stories from creators.
If you want to give it a try; this isn't industry standard but it's a start...Perhaps a right wing cape crusader "Bluone" or maybe you could write copy for the GOP media sections. You wouldn't even have to leave home and you would have a much biggly audience than ATS.

Even gas pumps have video screens on them now. Somebody has to make that stuff they show, ads mostly for slimjims and big gulps but I have seen political ads as well.

www.celtx.com...

Oh yeah, you could start and write an anti twerking campaign. There's a market for everything no matter how asinine.

Sex in grade school? Your point is somewhat true I think. But it is also their bodies that are telling them to have sex and that is based on millions of years of biological impulse and not just a couple of thousand years of religious repression.

I remember way back 62 years when I was 11. We had to take dancing lessons with real girls. Every time the random partner exchange brought 11 year old Hilda to be my partner, the brushing of her already developed breasts against me
brought about physical reactions I had not anticipated. That wasn't social conditioning, that was biology. You know, pheromones and all.

No one said an 11 year old did not start feeling attraction. Before it was manipulated to pervert it, kids were repulsed by the idea of touching each other at 10. A kiss was vomit or at least pretend so, as they followed a slow and stepped path to the actual act.
Feeling something with physical contact at 11 and finding it a thrill was fun! Looking for a reason to stand close, to eventually hold hands and it followed naturally and slow. Kids did not even think of the actual sex act until they were older and then they slowly experienced each other.
The loss of the innocent part and the slow progression to actual physical and mental love has left people cold and empty.

As I said Hecate, for me, the film would be pornographic. As well, I agree that for the culture we like to believe we live in, it is inappropriate. And for all of that being the case, isn't it possible that our entire culture is off the mark?

What we know is is that culture and mores now tell us this kind of thing is wrong. But what if those cultures and mores are wrong for much longer. What we do know is that culture and mores and all the rest of the modern social window dressing is not in tune at all with the natural timing of adulthood. That timing specifically dictates that once a child reaches puberty, they have undergone the millions year old rite of passage into adulthood and by all standards of species propagation the drive to reproduce, however we wish to dress it up.

Read about this in daily mail and I gotta say when i saw the 4 girls dressed as they were, bending over or in straddling position, I thought 'well... the pedo's will love this one' and then I thought 'oh, its Netflix and members of the board are in the LGBTQ community' and then I thought 'It's about a young 11 year old Muslim girl who wants to do dancing in these provocative ways and possibly another step in the direction of underage sex'.

Anyway, I won't be watching it as i'm in my 40's and have no interest in watching these young girls dancing provocatively.

Times have changed in a big way since 'Grange Hill'.

NIcely put and I agree, but only from within the limits of a social culture that I am sure we both adhere to. But once again however, that perspective is THIS social culture and not the be all and end all of social cultures. There are others and all of them are subject to change based on the pressures imposed upon them. And from my understanding of natural selection and evolutionary perspectives a major pressure is that our more recent historical cultures are repressive of the sexual urge.

I'm not in favor of a movie like this, though here I cannot speak for others. I've seen kids twerking on other programs and find it just as if not more offensive to my cultural values other forms of self expression.

Where to begin?

OK, good morals are good .. .
but judgmental, puritanical, raised vein sorts should start their moralizing at a mirror.

Sexualizing children (or anyone inflicting a conditional love on them of any sort) is bad, sure ... but is this flick that, really?

Is it good to lump vague, highly subjective outrage in with actual abuse that already suffers from under-reporting and shame?

---

Back to my jobs and charity work that coincidentally too often have me in the company of children.

(in case my obtuse double reverse sarcasm evades some random hothead, I have no inclinations at all towards simplistic, oft snot bubbled, children, and can barely even tolerate most once adults, though I sympathize with the too numerous victims)

If people want to reject all external stimuli that causes uncomfortable feelings. Perhaps we should also introduce hijab's for children. Not only movement but form. could also trigger those thoughts eh!

The film looks like its made for teens on their freedoms to express themselves in dance. If adults see it as erotic then blocking these films isn't going to fix their minds.

Perhaps they should introduce R for anyone over 16yo.

They are clearly not 16

Speaking of Jesus, John the Baptist, Matthew 3:12 says, “His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor, gathering His wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Nor did I imply they were 16, I was implying the film should be banned for viewing by all adults.

If a robot danced in the same way. Would you say the robot had sinned. Or you had sinned for wanting to hump it?

Its useless blinding our sight to all external stimuli that makes us think sinful thoughts. Its the thoughts that are sinful not the stimuli. So externalizing sin, only empowers sin, in your own heart. To overcome sin, we can only defeat it from within.

Ai really don't understand why people are anti netflix, just monitor what your kid watches... and dont watch/support films or shows you think suck...
Not a hard concept

Also, this willl be a film with a low turn out.. most viewers willl be adults..this controversy is silly.

I"m going to argue for the sake of arguing.

It is the entire structure of repression world wide that is being exposed here.

I find your argument ridiculous. Today's society does anything BUT repress young peoples sexuality! They are having sex now in grade school thanks to this thinking!
My daughter began her periods when she was barely turned 11 so shes ready then right, if not encouraged she is being repressed! What a stupid idea!

That sounds very pedophobic of you. How dare you sound rational.
