With mitigation, the revised estimates look accurate.
It looks like the mitigation has worked well and in fact, it's you who was wrong.

As extraordinary as it may sound, it actually is looking like we are on the cusp of total eradication of the virus. That was not what was originally planned for, but it is what seems to be happening. Now of course, that would put us in an interesting situation, in that if we were to eradicate it, we would have to hold strict quarantine on our borders for potentially years, but we have a long history of keeping agricultural pests and diseases out of this country. We can still minimize deaths and keep hospitalizations low by following common sense precautions and isolating the high risk groups, especially in a place like Australia where we have a lot of low density populations.

It's not a matter of stopping all people from coming in, just quarantine and testing anyone who comes in, which would not be ideal, but is certainly possible. Would not stop someone who wants to come here for an extended stay, or permanent migration, but will stop short term travellers unfortunatly.

As far as products go, Covid-19 doesn't last on surfaces long enough for that to be a risk. Plastic is the worst, at 72 hours, even then that's 72 hours detectable at trace amounts, and you would have to basically lick it to catch it at that point. There is no evidence that you can catch Covid 19 from imported goods, most of the virus will have broken down on the surface. Besides, quarantining products coming in is pretty easy, just hold in storage for a few days or fumigate. It is possible - just not ideal. But if we eradicate it in 2 months time, who would want to be the one to decide to open the borders up and let the virus take hold again? Be a hard decision to make.

Maybe if he took some action that looked like he was thinking of America and not himself or his re-election or making money off of it but he is completely incapable of thinking of others first.
I really don't understand how you guys don't see him for what he really is.

There is a period where people can carry the virus but not test positive, and the test it's self is known to have a relatively high rate of false positives and false negatives. It's far from a perfectly reliable solution, plus there seems to be an insufficient number of tests to be testing people, you'd have to only test the symptomatic people, but we know a large portion of people are asymptomatic. That's why the employee at that aged care home didn't realize they were spreading the virus.

That's true but there's still people on the boats and planes transporting the goods, they can be infected at any stage and bring it back. But you're right it's probably not a high concern if the right precautions are taken. The point is there's no magical perfect solution that will stop every vector through which the virus can spread, it will always manage to get back in so long as it exists in the rest of the world.

No it wont really be a decision at all, they will be forced to open it up at some point for a multitude of reasons. It may very well be possible to keep the borders mostly closed and keep Australia virtually free of Covid-19, but we'd have to stay closed until the entire rest of the world had done the same thing and that simply wont happen. The core point isn't about Australia, it's that this virus can't be erased from the face of the Earth and we'll have to expose ourselves to it at some point. We can't just close up everything the moment we see numbers rising again, because mark my words it will happen. The goal was never to totally eradicate Covid-19 and nor should it be, the goal is and has always been to slow the spread enough to ensure the health system isn't overwhelmed, which I can agree makes sense, but I absolutely disagree with the premise these strict lockdown for every single person regardless of their risk factor needs to continue for many more months or even years, every fiber of my being disagrees with that premise and knows it's a highly naive and emotionally driven way of thinking.

IMO many many more have had this than we will ever know without mandatory testing.

Very good post. Ignorant people don’t realize that viruses don’t kill directly. For example, Hep C attacks the liver and that’s what gets affected with that disease. It’s the liver problems that the virus creates not the virus itself.

Same thing with aids. It’s the damage the virus does to the immune system that kills NOT the virus itself.

Virus’s attacks cells, therefore, attack organs

Have you noticed that the media only encourages to get tested if you have symptoms? What if the symptoms aren't exactly clear like that experience of that UK couple that I've heard on that cruise ship, the Diamond Princess, who explained they were coughing every now and then but even as the ship was in quarantaine, and cases were popping up left and right, they still thought it was just because of the airco? Turned out they both had Corona and the guy had to be rushed to the hospital with dangerously low oxygen saturation, hardly able to walk of the ship. Only then did he notice he was actually quite sick. Also notice what he explains concerning checking their temperatures and being in denial (about having the disease):

Notice how this clever man already realized that respirators (intubation, mechanical ventilation) was a bad idea already back before March 11 (the date of that video, but he's talking about past experiences). How long did it take nurses and physicians to start complaining that those following hospital protocol rushing people towards intubation were basically "murdering" people, patients?

It's a re-upload, but I'm guessing almost 2 months (and even then it was rare). Wouldn't the ones who wrote those protocols already be aware of what they were doing? Thus, doing it wrong on purpose? I mean, a certain amount of expertise can be expected from those with influence on hospital protocols, can't it? How can a patient know these things better than such an expert, if they really didn't know what they were doing and really didn't do it on purpose to make the Corona problem worse and score some kills for Corona (in so doing supporting the play of anyone who has made a hefty profit so far on the corona crisis)?

Riddle me this:

Since we know the elderly are especially susceptible to dying from this virus, how come it doesn't seem to have affected any of the scads of senior citizens infesting our government bodies--i.e. the Senate, the House, the State Legislatures, etc.?

I keep hoping the Nancy Pelosis of the world will get it and drop dead, but nah, no such luck.
