500 Million Light years is also a very damn long time ago..

If it were, they would be long gone by now and on top of that, we could never hope to ever, have the technology to travel out that far to find out.

That is one of the few lunar science projects I could get behind because it would be relatively easy and "cheap" to accomplish with no need to send people there to do it. Select a nice parabolic crater on the farside and then send some robots in there to weave a metallic spider web that would create a nice, huge radio telescope dish hidden away from most of the radio noise on Earth. I bet we'd pick up some interesting signals with it.

Beamforming is directional vs omnidirectional where it just sends out in all directions.
You can use beamforming on the transmitter and the receiver to get tight signals.

Not only this but the shear amount of energy required to be spent sending this signal would be something on the order only able to be obtained by civilizations on par with, let's say The Ancestors from Stargate.

Notice I referenced a fictional civilization. That's because as powerful as many peons may think we are....were not.

Not sure why the title says "Clockwork" then in the body of the article it states that sometimes multiple.....sometimes none.

If it is sometimes this or that and they cant predict it then clockwork isn't the right word for it.

our first intentional broadcast was in 1974 so these broadcasts could likely place their technology 80 or so years ahead of us, if it is a civilization responsible for these broadcasts anyway.

Not like a laser, though. You can kind of block a signal like the way the moon blocks our signals when it gets in the way. But radio in general tends to spread like water or unfocused light.

Either way, it's a lot easier to tell where it's coming from than where it's "directed."
