If you really want to talk about being led around by the nose.

'Social Media'.

I say it's a systemic failure of modern 'culture'.

Old teens are generally more well behaved than young teens.

Just young teens huh? No mention of any particular similarities between these teens? Not one news agency ready to call out the elephant in the room on this one?

Gasp!!! That's racial profiling. Even though it is true. There was a story on yahoo about a group of "teens" that beat up an old man in NY for $1.00. Unfortunately the man died.

Because that seems more likely then the average hoodlums of the world doing what they have done in multiple cities and places.

I'm a boomer with two teens... They know what my signal jammer is...most of us call it a hammer. They know what are rights and what are privileges and they know very few things in life are rights.

Sad, but, charge 5$ admission, fully credited against any purchase.
Should get rid of issue

I agree. It really is down to tribal activity. The biggest tribe can do what they want. In the UK we had a spate of this, it was called "steaming". 20, 30 or 40 youths running through crowds, especially on the tube at rush hour, just grabbing what they wanted off people. Phones, lap tops, bags, just anything they could get hold of.
This is not new, only new to Malls. You see exactly the same behaviour in riots or any happening where the police are tied up else where.
A phone call, the "tribe" gathers and then they rule the waves.

How do people protect themselves from this? Or mitigate it? It would seem like a bad idea to have anything on you, but how could one not have a phone?

some comments were, all of these kids are single parent homes.
sucks.

the only problem with psycho kids is they have no parents to teach them right or wrong.

Or the parents are criminally inclined themselves.

Goodbye Retail.

Hello online ordering.

Shopping is all about discovery and instant gratification. It can be a nice experience to just wander around with some money to burn, and make a purchase you feel good about. I don't get that with online browsing. I only go the online route when I can't find what I'm looking for locally.

I have seen some really empty and depressing malls though. I guess it was an 80's-90's thing to understand the shopping mall.

Anyways, kids will be kids. Got nothing better to do with climate doomsday fast approaching.

Sounds like "nice" teens, compared to the "looter gangs" who raid Chicago area stores and malls periodically. They arrive with empty garbage bags and leave with them full of pre-determined items.

I may be wrong but I think the biggest underlying factor here is single parent homes. Just a hunch. The number of children in single parent families is astounding. It totals over 24,000,000 (34%) as of 2017.

As of 2012, 84% of single parent homes are headed by the mother. In my opinion, a child needs both parents to lead them and guide them to be their best. I know there are great single moms and there are great single dads out there and there are always exceptions to rules.

Single parenting is hard on the parent and the child.

Children from single parent homes are:

  • More than twice as likely to be arrested for a juvenile crime.
  • Twice as likely to receive treatment for behavioral and emotional problems.
  • Approximately twice as likely to be expelled or suspended from school.
  • A third more likely to drop out of high school.

Challenges faced by the parent are

  • Financially supporting one’s family
  • Physical and emotional fatigue due to commitments at work and home
  • Lack of time for personal pursuits
  • Feelings of being overwhelmed with the responsibilities of raising a child
  • Childcare
  • Complications with the relationship/involvement of the other parent
  • Changes in children’s behavior

Until the underlying issues start to improve, I think things will only get worse.

And the Democrats want to lower the voting age?

If anything, it needs to be raised.

Funny how people can be found mentally incapable of exercising their constitutional right to own a firearm, but never have their right to vote revoked for the same reason. I think the same should go for voting.
