Sounds about right.
Property taxes are already supposed to pay for services like storm drains.

I would be asking me representatives why the funds are being squandered by the state making additional funding necessary.

Illinois is a turd circling the drain and politicians pulled the handle.

Not only that, but they are double taxing now. If you sell your used car you'll be taxed on it. Basically double taxing.
Called the trade in tax! CRAZY!

Happy new year!

Nearly half of the 20 tax and fee hikes passed to support a record $40 billion state budget and $45 billion infrastructure plan hit on New Year’s Day.

Hey you know that thing that you already pay taxes for? Well, we need tax money to use it so fork it over!

This is why we have a bill of rights.

ETA: suck these tax exempt balls.

Democrats won’t stop until the tax every bit of income you have and control every aspect of your life. This is why I vote against these liberal morons as an act of self-defense.

Hi JS.
Ok: this one is a bit old, but your post made me think of it:

A shepherd was herding his flock in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him.

The driver, a young man in an Armani suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the shepherd, "If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock, will you give me one?"

The shepherd looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing flock and calmly answers, "Sure. Why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his AT&T cell phone, surfs to a NASA page on the internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany. Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with hundreds of complex formulas. He uploads all of this data via an email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the shepherd and says, “You have exactly 1,586 sheep.”

“That’s right. Well, I guess you can take one of my sheep.” says the shepherd. He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then the shepherd says to the young man, “Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my sheep? “

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, “Okay, why not?”

“You work for the Government.” says the shepherd.

“Wow! That’s correct,” says the yuppie, “but how did you guess that?”

“No guessing required.” answered the shepherd. “You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked; and you don’t know crap about my business..."

"...Now give me back my dog!"

Illinois has a net loss of 90 taxpayers per day...365 days @ year.

The loss of tax revenue causes additional tax increases, or new types of taxes/fees.

One day, there will be only 1 million low-income people left in the state.

Just wait for it. There will be a snow tax that will follow. Snow melts and goes into the storm drains.

What about the huge Illinois corn and soybean farmers that own a ton of land, will they get taxed the same, or will the govt subsidies increase to offset those taxes? Asking for a friend.

Democrats want free health healthcare, free college, free everything for anyone that steps foot over the border.

Then also wants to tax everything including rain water.

Fire all these illinois politicians and start over. They tax everything and still fail at balancing a budget. Fire them all , remove their pensions, and replace them somehow.

Idk.. corruption in this state is off the charts.

I was thinking paying $7800/year in property taxes on a modest home might cover my share of taking care of such basic services.

Interestingly, the company I work for is expanding our parking lot, including paving over our "wetlands" type drainage system. By choice, we are installing a drainage system where water will seep through underground perforated tubes into the ground. The city was very happy we chose that method, rather than patching into the storm drainage system.

Like everything else, as politicians siphon money off where it doesn't belong, they cut the budget short for actual needed services. Their proposed solution is a separate tax, when money properly spent should be enough already.

It is crazy.

Nobody sane should remain a citizen of Illinois or California. The state government is literally your enemy if you live in either.

It is clearly unConstitutional on its face.

Thankfully Trump is appointing a ton of (hopefully) much more sensible judges who will reject such attempts at tyranny as the nonsense that they are.

So a couple of things:

Yes it seems outrageous at first glance but.......

1) If the money is being used to repair storm drain infrastructure then it makes sense. We pay a portion of our property tax specifically for storm drain upgrades.

2) Storm drains and sewer infrastructure are in pretty bad shape around the country

3) The bigger the surface area the more water run off. Business and home owners should be allowed to put in run off mitigation measures for a discount however

Lastly so what if churches have to pay a tax to use publicly funded services. Its seriously time to end this religious tax free status once and for all

My guess is you have never lived there. I did. Guess what I had to pay, a special referendum tax for ............. STORM DRAINS... So again, here is another double if not TRIPLE tax that won't actually go to the storm drains!

If they can charge you for the storm water runoff,

So Its only fair that we charge politician a bs tax for what they constantly spew out of their mouths

They wouldn't be able to afford it. They can spew BS faster than the can print money.
