Hello ATS.

I almost didn't want to post this news because some people think Zimmerman is justified in his actions and that Trayvon deserves what happened. While others feel that Zimmerman was in the wrong and got to walk free.
I want to discuss this however, and get the opinion of ATS. Does anyone agree with Zimmerman?

How would it make anyone feel to have their family member killed by someone then have the killer sue you? Does this even sound right? Someone kills a family member of yours, walks free, and then comes back years later and sues you? What says ATS?

He might have an actual case.

I guess the jury will decide.

I didn't really form an opinion around that incident, too much going on, I could kinda see how different sides would feel differently.

However this just seems like a publicity stunt.

Trayvon did what he did... What's that have to do with his family? I don't want to be held accountable for anything my family does... That's on them.

Are they loaded? Do they have 100mil?

So what's the point. My guess is he's gonna come out with a book or something, so he's drumming up attention.

If the facts are there, then it's a no-brainer, regardless of the jury.

Okay, I wrote that then realized that we're no dealing with people who look at facts.

Apologies.

The family knew their son was a little thug and attacked this man, the evidence is there, period. What they did, is lie and say this man murdered him in cold blood, for publicity and lots of money, which they got, destroying this man in the process. The media is who he should really sue.

Now Zimmerman is a POS as well after the fact for a few of his actions yaers after the incident, but this isn't about that.

What does his lawyers political leanings have to do with anything. He is described as “ high-profile conservative legal crusader”. This is a great example of bias in the media.

Attacked him, for following him.
He didn't just all of a sudden start beating on him.

So, I could see the argument that Martin's family has turned their son's martyrdom into a cash cow. And if they have continued to vilify Zimmerman as part of their fundraising efforts, then Zimmerman would have a point that a jury in a criminal case completely exonerated him.

Kind of like if the parents of OJ Simpson's ex-wife were doing fundraising and getting paid for speaking engagements and political endorsements based on their slain child's unrequited thirst for justice.

Have Martin's parents previously hit Zimmerman with a civil suit? He could be suing to recover court costs to clear his name in such a proceeding.

guess what was found in his backpack when he was suspended? A large flat head screwdriver and around 20 pieces of women's jewelry. Yea he was breaking into houses, imagine that. Was there something about this kid, like suspicion, that warranted him to be followed? Besides, if your being followed you try to get away, not circle around and ambush a person from the bushes. The evidence is there if you care to look.

The fact is, there isn't $100 million out there. Blood from a turnip. That makes this a publicity stunt.

Oh goody, a Trayvon/Zimmy thread! Been a while.

Here's how I see it...

Zimmerman was doing his thing looking for suspicious people in the neighborhood after a rash of thefts. He saw Martin, who looked suspicious (I don't care about race and all that, the kid looked suspicious so Z did what he thought was best). Martin and Zimmerman had an interaction. Martin told his friend, Rachel, that some creepy ass cracker was watching him. That seemed to make Martin the most upset. Martin then fled, Zimmerman gave chase because it's common knowledge that if someone runs, they're up to no good. For 60+ seconds, Zimmerman walked around looking for Martin. Martin was seconds from his dad's front apartment door but instead of going inside, he hid behind a bush and waited for Zimmerman to walk around the corner, when Martin then rushed and attacked him. As Martin kept pounding on Z's face, Z's only defense was to pull his gun out and shoot. Same thing any of us would do if we were in the same situation. The NBPP put a bounty on Z's head and the media made it into a race situation. Instead of a man who shot another man (Martin was NOT a kid and was on suspension after his school found stolen items and a screwdriver in his bag) in self defense, the media ruined Zimmerman's life.

So, do I think the family should pay? They were awarded over a million for their son attacking another guy when all he had to do is walk inside his dad's house. Maybe what they were awarded should be split with Zimmerman.

It's just wrong, in my opinion. I know that morality isn't part of the legal system.

The lawsuit isn't just for trayvon's parents, it also includes Florida prosecutors.

If it's true what he claims, then yes... He should sue. Imagine the kind of hatred that guy received after this 'justified shooting'.

It alleges that the prosecution's key witness in Zimmerman's 2013 murder trial, Rachel Jeantel, was an imposter coached by the family and their lawyers.

If you bear false witness against me... then yes, you should be sued. I had sympathy for the family until they decided to use their son as a mascot for racial violence and gun control. Along with all of that, Zimmerman could hardly show his face anywhere after. His fault? Doesn't matter. He was proven innocent. He shouldn't have to deal with that kind of backlash as an INNOCENT person, found innocent in a court of law.

Highly unlikely in 2019. This case is essentially what put the whole race problem in America on the forefront. This is obama's son he never had that we're talking about. Crime and trouble mattered none. It was the perfect scenario for the democrats to drive that wedge, they even labeled Zimmerman as white.

Reading about it, it looks like he is suing publishers and even prosecutors.

As far as the family, you'd have to prove they had the intent of lying... That would be hard, considering they weren't there and are operating off of emotion. Two people know what happened, and one is dead.

He might win with the prosecutors and media (latter being harder), Zimmerman was injured, and there is stand your ground law in Florida... Whether or not you have an opinion on what "actually" happened, I doubt there's enough evidence to charge an injured person in a stand your ground state with no witnesses, video, ect.

That's true, but the Martin family got their money from the apartment complex and the mom got an 8 month paid vacation from the FL government.
