Christmas movie or not?

Tis the season to argue with family...so here we go.

Is die hard a Christmas movie?

I say no.
This movie hit the theaters on July 20th 1988..
I've heard of christmas in July but I don't think this is what they mean.
The plot could have taken place on the fourth of July or on Halloween and it wouldn't really change the movie.

Prometheus "the alien prequel" took place on Christmas and it's never mentioned as a christmas movie. Cuz it's not.

Sorry but no...
Shooting a bunch of armed criminals isn't exactly in the holiday spirit.

If you ask me, it's a pretty cut-and-dried action picture.

For me personally when I see Die Hard I think of Christmas just because its a part of the plot but I certainly dont equate it to the holidays in the way I do say A Christmas Story

The Christmas party provides a plausible reason for John McClane to visit LA from NY. That's it. The story has nothing to do with Christmas.

Winston has a mistress in 1984, but that doesn't make it a romance.

LIke others have said the story takes place at Christmas time but that doesnt make it a Christmas movie.

Yah like I said, for me, it's not a holiday film like A Christmas Story but when I see it I do think of Christmas.

Someone above will argue that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.
Even though Bruce Willis stated it wasn't a Christmas movie, Die Hard 1&2 are in fact Christmas movies as the movies take place on Christmas. The Theme Score of Die Hard's 1&2 are Christmas Music.

Die Harry's 3 4 5 6 7 Do not take place on Christmas. Hence Die Hard 1&2 are Christmas Movies.




Edit: Don't Shoot your eye out in a "Christmas Story" was a wee bit shoot and fight bullies kind of violent.

Well since its got the music in the background it's hard not to be reminded of Christmas.

When the holiday season rolls around we watch the Harry Potter series and band of brothers.
Not Christmas movies but for some reason we watch them during the holidays.

It's not a Classic Christmas movie in the vein of "a Christmas Carol" or "miracle on 34th street",but it is a Christmas movie in a sense..

The plot is essentially :
Separated family, under stress and against all odds, find a way to come together for the holiday.

I mean if you don't get the warm fuzzies ,when Holly (hmmm nice name choice there) punches the dooooshy reporter in the face standing by her man at the end, then I don't know if you are even human....

Can't judge a movie by it's poster, watched the movie...
it's a Christmas movie as it takes place during a Christmas party during Christmas. With guns, blood, broken glass, explosives, helicopter and twin towers.

The best character was Ellis.
"Hans! Boobie!"
