Agenda item 16: Economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan

I think Bluetone was very upfront about saying that this thread is about women's rights in Israel.

No it isn't. This thread isn't about Israeli women's rights. It's about a UN resolution condemning Israel for their treatment of Palestinian women.

It's a resolution about a specific problem, Economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan

The Un Resolution doesn't single Israel out and the only violator of women's rights, in the world, wither. It singles Israel out for it occupation of Palestine, and its affects on Palestinian women.

1. Reaffirms that the Israeli occupation remains a major obstacle for Palestinian women and girls with regard to the fulfilment of their rights, and their advancement, self-reliance and integration in the development of their society;

2. Calls upon Israel, the occupying Power, to immediately cease all measures contrary to international law, as well as discriminatory legislation, policies and actions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, that violate the human rights of the Palestinian people, and stresses that Palestinian civilians, particularly women and children, account for the vast majority of those adversely affected by the conflict;

3. Calls for urgent measures to ensure the safety and protection of the Palestinian civilian population in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, in accordance with the relevant provisions of international humanitarian law and as called for by the Security Council in its resolution 904 (1994) of 18 March 1994;

So it's whining that Israeli's get to keep the land they won by beating the rabid Arab hordes back?

Maybe they should get back to stoning women for getting raped. Most of those countries love that crap.

I made it very clear it wasnt abiut Israeli women.

The post is about how certain countries condemning Israel when they are terrible within their own borders in the area of womens rights.

"Moreover, ECOSOC concluded its annual session by ignoring the world’s worst abusers of women’s rights, refusing to pass a single resolution on the situation of women in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, or DR Congo, all of which ranked in the top ten worst countries in last year’s Global Gender Gap Report, produced by the World Economic Forum."

Israel is not perfect, and they are in a precarious conflict which gives a lot of nuance to the topic.

I'm just confused at why the focus on women? Israel is a country that is a bastion (IMO) of gender equality, and they've shown this in many different ways.

I just think those seeking change, whatever that may be, are hurting their own cause by drawing it up in this manner.

But that's just my two cents, I know I often look at things odd.

Israel will probably listen. Muslim countries won’t

There logic had nothing to do with Israel's women as I understand it, but everything about Palestinian women.

Israel gets the blame because the Palestinians haven't been able to create their own state yet. If the Palestinians were ever able to create their own state, we'd be hearing how they abuse their own women and use them as shields to hide behind their own corruption.

I stand with Israel, the U.N. is abominable. They destroy everything they touch, or rule on, or even remotely look at.

No really. You can't say anything bad about Isreal or you will be labeled an anti-Semite.

I would like to think the good people of the World would support human rights and human decency irregardless of national borders, political ideology, or religions affiliation. I guess I am an idealist.

Like I said earlier, I'm in no way defending Israel.
I am yelling shenanigans on Saudi Arabia and Yemen making any claims of women being abused.

Naive is more like it. Most of the UN member states are dictatorships that restrict women in particular.

Also, irregardless isn't a word. It's a double negative.

well its about time , that some nations were called out on their abuse of womeN!

there are a few Id put in front of Israel for womens rights violations for sure

but hey , if one chip at the block is removed then keep it coming , in my opinion any nation with human rights violatiions should be heavily sanctioned and even lose their UN council seats unless resolved within the space of 1 meeting

Have to laugh at India condemning Israel for calling them out

INDIA ; where it is legal to rape your wife as long as she is aged over 12

WHy are so many Indians ok with this law ?
why hasnt it been repealed by like every single good person in India ?
is India a nation full of women haters ?

I think idealism gets further when you show a willingness to put honesty above all... That means a focus to objectively call things for what they are, or at the very least attempt to do that (we all have some level of bias we will have to combat). I think people take words more to heart when they realize that is a goal of someone.

In this case, I'd still be willing to say that the report seems to be mischaracterized (in my estimation) to pull at heart strings. Accusing one of the best nations for gender equality for violating women's rights just seems counter productive, whereas the actual possibility of Israel mistreatment of Palestinians regardless of gender. Ironically I'd be willing to bet soldier aged Palestinian males are targeted more.

Why don't we start with the worse offenders rather than going after first world countries who make an honest attempt at positive society for both genders?

This seems to be more of an issue of broad conflict more than women's rights issue.

Aye , burning children and throwing gays of buildings and stoning women are pretty much up there for reasons to end a country in my book!

Funny the west hasnt ever invaded these countries for those reasons

only if they have a terrorist or a dude with some yellow cakes !

but women and children arent a good enough reason to end a country or the dictator that runs it
