The tanker is called Stena Impero and was heading for Saudi Arabia

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim to have seized a British oil tanker, the Stena Impero, which suddenly veered off course and headed into Iranian waters. The ship’s owners issued a statement saying it had been “approached by unidentified small crafts and a helicopter during transit of the Strait of Hormuz while the vessel was in international waters.”

“We are presently unable to contact the vessel which is now heading north towards Iran,” the owners, Stena Bulk, and the ship’s managers, Northern Marine, said in the statement.

The UK ministry of defence said it was urgently looking into what had happened to the Stena Impero, a 30,000 tonne British-flagged ship, which was heading for Saudi Arabia when it abruptly left the international sea lanes through the strait of Hormuz and tracking data showed it heading north towards the Iranian island of Qeshm, where the Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has a substantial base.

The Stena Impero, which has a crew of 23 on board

Iran's Revolutionary Guard forces, in a statement on their website, say the ship was seized for "non-compliance with international maritime laws and regulations" and is being brought to an unnamed Iranian port, according to the Associated Press.

This ought to get interesting!

Looks like it's about to hit the fan.

Going to be messy.

Iran is not going to stop these shenanigans until someone puts their foot down. Preferably on their throats.

They are not going to stop until it escalates into a full blown war or they get their way and it seems they will do anything they can until one of those 2 things happen.

Here's a site with more info and some info on the incident that happened earlier this month

Earlier in the month, Iranian naval craft unsuccessfully attempted to seize a British flagged oil tanker in the Persian Gulf. The tanker ‘British Heritage’ was sailing out of the Persian Gulf and was crossing into the Strait of Hormuz area when it was approached by boats from the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard.

Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose had been escorting the tanker and it has been reported that the British warship ‘pointed its guns at the Iranian boats’ in order to deter the seizure.

Seems they (Iran) have gone a step further this time...

They are responding to an action carried out by Britain , it's a tit4tat move.

Well, I don't like the looks of this.
Didn't we have a warship in the area?

If the British tanker is empty...and the Iranian tanker (the British captured) is full...
UK should propose a direct trade...ONE empty ship & crew for ONE empty ship & crew.

It looks like Iran is doing just that. To play devils advocate what if Iran had ships just on the line of international waters off the coast of the USA. Would you be standing up for their rights in international waters
