Initial reports from US officials suggested that five Iranian vessels were involved in the incident.

You gotta feel sorry for the young kids on both sides coaxed into 'make something of your life' like on those radio adverts the MOD put out. They even use a Scouse accent (never home counties lol) to reel the kids into handing over their futures to a life and death gamble.

The day Iran actually hijacks a British vessel (commercial or otherwise) will be the day sentient extraterrestrial life reveals its existence/presence to humans here on Earth.
No chance.
Yeah it's not like Iran has the balls to seize a ship belonging to a major military power.
Okay, fine, I stand corrected.
In any case, the UK is not combat ready anyway, so even if Iran committed such a daring act, they'd probably be talked down.
So far, it's "all talk" from our side (and the odd sanctions here and there). "War" is unnecessary, arduous and ill-advised at this current moment in time.
It's a good thing we're not starting a war with Iran then.

Iran is a very different situation than we've seen in that region. If anything happens it will be limited in scope, similar to the first strikes in Syria, and other countries in the past. The planned strike would have hit the air defenses in the area that the S-200 was fired that brought down the BAMS-D. The idea is to reign in the IRGC, and teach them that it's a bad idea to keep escalating things the way they have been. Then deal with any escalations after in a limited manner, similar to Preying Mantis.

Iran is being foolish again. Her Majesties ship, Montrose will slap them, and if that isn't enough, we have got Her Majesties back, and we will rain Hellfire on them.
The H.M.S Montrose is there? I'm from the town of Montrose and that ship comes to port regularly, they used to put together a football team and play against the town team whenever they are on shore, go get 'em lads...

ETA: On one hand folks like to claim it's not a big deal if Iran gets nukes because they're too smart to use them, but then they'll turn around and respond to limited strikes and get themselves into a conventional war with US and possibly its allies? Are they smart or not?
That's a fair enough question. I suppose it's nuance. Just like people are willing to be critical of the federal government and its spending unless it has to do with foreign projection, and then question the reasoning is considered a no no.
Personally, I doubt they would risk nuclear annihilation by using one... But they're bats### crazy so who really knows.
My question has always been why is that region our responsibility.

Are you saying that shooting down an aircraft in international airspace, and attempting to seize a ship in international waters isn't an act of war? Why is it that Iran can do whatever they want, and it's fine, but if we even talk about retaliating for their actions it's an act of war?

The worse part, it is the poor that usually fight these wars to make others richer.
