Earlier today there was a pretty big outage that impacted multiple different providers.
It wasn't anything nefarious , which is typically the first jump here when there is a disruption but rather the same thing that caused one of the
recent FB outages: a BGP Route Leak .
Without getting too far into the weeds this scenario was ultimately compounded by Verizon which then had a cascading effect on everything.
It's not uncommon for BGP leaks or flaps to impact services and when it does no amount of the mythical "every network has redundancy" is going to
prevent this kind of impact.
Obama signed over control of the internet backbone servers to an undisclosed foreign "private company" .
I have heard that it was a Saudi Arabian company.
