As massive as the global weapons trade is, the US dominates it, accounting for one-third of the entire thing. In the past five years, the US has sold "major" weapons to at least 96 countries—or nearly half the membership of the UN—with the major buyers being Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Turkey

Selling weapons to half the world countries, while at perpetual war on terror in those countries' immediate regions as well. Not a conflict of interest, as thanks to the weapons they will get safer.

What else is it largest global dealer in?

So what countries are being supplied the most weapons from US? Here's a closer look:

Cold war era, is not surprising due to gang systems with westernized countries such as Yakuza, mafias, etc. Majority of those countries have constant gang warfare issues.

Imagine the profit of them smuggling into China just like the Chinese civil war. The only way to stop it is destroying the banking system.

Bull crap.

As there is no way to gauge how much Russia and China sell.

I do believe Chinese Gov started selling after Soviet Union fell. No one was really buying into Chinese weapons neither do they have the programs for it. But it was mostly to armies of other countries like Vietnam during civil war. Russia though?? I think the day Russia started doing it was after they stop supporting their communist brothers properly. Selling to other communist factions under USSR is considered legit, just like how US was support other factions during WW2.

To gangs and mafias is not really legit. Those are crime organizations.

I wonder if background checks and proper paperwork is done in these kinds of arms deals....

The arms trade is an interesting one. The US mostly sell high value equipment. How many boxes of AK47s are the equivilent of an F35? What weapon does most of the killing? 10,000 AK47s and 10 million rounds of ammunition, or a single F35 and a brace of expensive missiles?

You don't think the US arms dealers know exactly who their competitors are and who got what sale from what group? This is about billions and billions of dollars. They know Exactly who sells what to whom. It's their Business to know and they have the money to find out.

Speaking about AK47:
The US has lost tens of thousands of AK-47s in Afghanistan

More than 190,000 AK-47 assault rifles and pistols distributed to Iraqi forces by the US are missing, feared fallen into the hands of insurgents, a congressional watchdog warned today.
