Sports where you are directly competing with your physical body on its merits.

In the world of equestrian events or racing cars, much of the physicality is rendered unnecessary, not all, but enough that men and women can compete on a level field, but by the time you get to things like bicycling, you're back to human physicality again.

Exactly. It's basically the same reason boxing has weight classes. A scrawny little guy who weighs 150 pounds simply doesn't have a chance against a 250 pound hulk. In sports where strength is important, women are inherently at a disadvantage. Thus, they created separate women's categories so they can complete against their peers. Allowing (genetic) men to compete as women is like allowing Mike Tyson to fight as a welterweight.

Imagine of we stopped gender segregation in competitive sports and just made it all one category (no male or female), then natural born females can kiss goodbye to any chance of ever qualifying for ANY competitive sporting event ever.

I believe that allowing "self-ID" men to compete against women in competitive sports is outrageous and shocking - but, most of all, downright stupid.
