They lose fat in the wild. He tried to fatten em up but they didn't gain much weight. Granted.. It was only 3 months.

I think they did go there during the equinox and solstice etc....but its my understanding that they also went there to get off their tits and take part in all sorts of shenanigans....lucky blighters!

I think the same kind of thing used to happen at Gobekli Tepe. There may have been some very basic religious-type things going on there. Storytelling and stuff. But I suspect that it was also a place where a lot of hunter gatherer types would get together, maybe trade a little bit, and have a big picnic. I imagine there was also some good ol' prostitution going on there, as evidenced by a lot of fertility symbolism found there.

People haven't changed much over the last 40,000 years or so, and even if they were half Neanderthal or Denisovan, they still would have really liked a good barbeque.
