Did you really expect anything different? They've made strides in fixing our procurement system, but not that many yet.

Oh hell no! I just sometimes loose my perspective, get drunk etc and start having irrational thoughts and wishes. A clean and efficient procurement process being one of them.

That's a dream that we all have at some point.

Ret. General John Corley, former head of ACC, air component commander of US Joint Forces Command, and deputy for the assistant secretary of Air Force acquisition, has written an opinion piece about the purchase of F-15s, stating that the Pentagon is making the same mistakes as in the past. The big mistake he points to is the F-22 end, when the Pentagon said that the earliest there would be another 5th Gen fighter to compete against it was 2025.

He was Commander of ACC when they canceled the Raptor. I partially blame him too then. I understand they canceled it to fund other programs that were arguably just as important. They were close to the 2025 estimate. Who out there has a fifth gen? China’s? They couldn’t foresee the hacking and espionage so they were pretty close.

There was an old saying: the raptor killed the Air Force and the 35 will kill the DoD. Such an expensive program.

Didn’t they get more 35s this bill than planned? The lessons were learned he must’ve forgot. The Raptor is flying it’s ass off. Adding hours to its airframe and not doing anything of substance. Peanut butter spread the 35s for a decade or two. Keep making them better slowly. Build the B-21. Build a metric # ton. The AF is going to lose a ton of eagles for age soon. But they want them to keep flying for another 20 years. The SLEP costs as much as a new jet and reduces capability since it’ll take a long time for a jet to slep. Replace the C with the EX. In another decade after that they’ll be fully two seat multi role and not single seat flown. E model dudes and wsos will finally have a Gaurd base to go to. The EX can travel to nations and show air superiority where we can’t fly fifth gen at. Smaller footprint. Makes sense. This has been in the works for a long long time.

Well that would have been at least 5-8 years ago. As good as it might be there is no bottomless money pot so something else will be sacrificed to pay for this.

Don't you think that the come back to past F-15, will keep away a new next generation fighter ? years ago a ngad fighter will replace the F-15 C and now it is with new F-15 is there realy nothing new soon on the ramp, to buy instead new F-15 ?

5-8 years ago the state of the CModel was not fully realized. Once it was realized they moved quickly unprecedented to get the problem fixed with newer Eagles.

No. It’s not a past Eagle. The upgraded capability with it is not a “past Eagle” in terms of lethality and survivability.

The newer fighter development has not lost any steam.

For obvious reasons.

The whole thing is such a stupid idea.

Don't you think buying 144 F-15EX in long term will have an impact on the NGAD program ?

They already dragged NGAD behind the barn and shot it it with the Digital Century Series acquisition plan.

The 45th FTS will take possession of EX1, and the 80th TES will take possession of EX2 next year at Eglin for testing.

What do you mean? It’s going to be pretty darn effective.
