Recently I tried to discuss the plight of Eritrean girls and women with an educated and aware white woman. It was immediately dismissed as "just right wing propaganda".

A small part of Eritrean history.

At the same time Ethiopia had been strengthening its ties with the United States, even sending troops to fight with the Americans in the Korean War in 1950. Concerned that a weak Eritrea might be vulnerable to a communist takeover, which would threaten access to the Red Sea and trade through the Suez Canal, the United States and other western powers, acting through the United Nations, promoted the idea of Eritrea becoming part of Ethiopia. In December 1952, the UN finally declared Eritrea an autonomous unit federated to Ethiopia and hence turned Eritrea over to its most brutal and oppressive ruler to date: Ethiopia. It was the beginning of the ten-year period of absoption by Ethiopia.

Haile Selassie saw to it that the first three governors of the federated unit were related to him. Ethiopia began to violate and undermine the federal arrangement. Eritrean political parties were banned. The agreed Eritrean share of customs and excise duty were expropriated. Eritrean newspapers were censored. In 1956, Tigrinya and Arabic were forbidden as teaching languages, and replaced with Amharic. Student protests and boycotts ensued, but were repressed. Eritrean industries were dismantled and moved to Addis Ababa. In 1962, with the silent consent of the UN and USA, and again against the expressed will of the people of Eritrea, Ethiopia unilaterally dissolved the "Federation", formally, forcefully and illegally annexed Eritrea and declared it to its 14th province of Ethiopia.

For the next 30 years, Eritrea's plight was virtually ignored by the international community. Frustration at the lack of room for political manoeuvre finally resulted in the launch of the armed struggle. Ethiopia's Haile Selassie was supported for decades by the United States for geopolitical and Cold War reasons. For the US's unrestricted use of a military base, Selassie was given "aid" (i.e. military aid). This unfortunately was used against Eritrean secessionists and Ethiopian guerillas in brutal wars.

Bad stuff happening at home.

In a small country that secured its independence through a long and arduous armed struggle, it is disheartening to see acts of lawlessness and gender-based violence and discrimination that are almost unheard of in the 21st Century.

Eritrean women are being sexually and physically abused not only by military officers but also by the leader of the country. This has been verified to HRCE by women who stated they were victims of this ordeal. Since gender-based abuse appears to be sanctioned at the very highest level, the miseries endured by Eritrean women seem unrelenting and will continue until the regime is held accountable.

Calais Migrant Solidarity telling it how it is.

Rule number 1 for the tents: Take care that no one follows you. Hands, hands all over. You’d better not walk alone at night. You’d better not be a woman, actually, you probably shouldn’t be there at all. But there you are. People calling you. People whistling. People laughing. Some of them are nice. Some are not.

Men lacking basic self-control creating a catastrophic situation for women.

“It’s a catastrophic situation,” says Maya Konforti, who has volunteered at Calais for over a year with L’Auberge des Migrants. “Women are more vulnerable than men, especially when there are 200 women compared to 3,000 men. There is a lot of testosterone going around. They have to watch out for themselves and stick together. Women who are alone try to find a male protector, but that protection does not come for free. They don’t discuss it openly, but sexual favours go on.”

Does it feel safe for women living with the mostly male migrants and refugees?

"Do you feel safe here?" I ask her, recalling the way her eyes had flashed open when I'd walked past. She squints at me and shakes her head. "I'm 19 years old, and I'm living among men who are twice my age. They aren't married, they're bored, they're angry. No, I don't."

A swaggering group of young Eritrean men walk up the train tracks towards the camp, listening to music on their phones. I ask Cecile why she is here on the side of the road. "I am exhausted. I am scared to sleep in the camp. I am scared to sleep at all."

Can anyone on ATS tell me why an educated white woman would call the rape of Eritrean girls and Women right wing propaganda?

There is absolutely no reason why an educated white woman would call the rape of women and girls right wing propaganda.

Tell me, have you ever heard of the concept of the straw man argument?

I couldn't possibly relay that message to her. Even the word brainwashed is likely to bring an angry response.

The best I can manage is, 'unable to consider any alternative to the trendy belief system due to the fear of social exclusion'.

Where I am now it's unusual to find a woman who doesn't follow the trendy and obviously false belief system. It's terrible to see the lack of sisterhood. The suffering is real.

I think he has after reading that. Just a hunch though but the average white womans response would probably be oh my god. But he is choosing to interject race into this isnt he?

I have no clue why anyone would call it right wing propaganda. Usually the conservatives are against rape, but are most are ok with consensual sex. In this case, it is rape. I think the person calling it right wing propaganda is someone hooked on the left, their rationality is compromised. It doesn't matter if you are left or right, rape is rape. I guess if you are a liberal, it is alright to rape someone but conservatives can't. I have seen a steady decline in morals in this country over the years and see many people thinking they have special rights because they are liberals or minorities. The liberals are trying to butter up the minorities by making promises they will not keep...even if the minorities work hard on their agenda, in the future the liberals will suppress the masses.

The funny thing is that Liberals cannot see what they are actually doing, their delusion is blinding them. I used to be a liberal and have abandoned the movement now because of what I am seeing happening. I do not want to be conservative either, just stay in between.

Haven't heard any woman of colour say the same thing, but most of the white women around here are, to be blunt, brainwashed into thinking any non-white men are 'cooler than white men'. The mostly imaginary race issue is of paramount importance to the virtue signallers.

Being even more blunt. I truly think there is a very strong possibility that this is racial hatred from white women who consider themselves progressive towards women of other races who are struggling to escape persecution.

That's feels like the answer. Political addiction resulting in lack of rationality. With race being used for left political point-scoring.

People should not get hooked on politics, most of politics is associated with deceiving people to believe in something not completely true.

Well, to answer your question, right now it is en vogue in American leftism to dismiss any wrongdoings, oppression, colonialism, etc, on the part of anybody but whites or Europeans. That’s why many can’t discuss treatment of women or gays in let’s say Islamic countries without calling It islamophobia or right wing propaganda. I’ve seen these convos play out many times.

Another time a friend in international development, when we were working in the DR, said that any racism towards dark skinned people in east Asia could only be due to being taught that by white people, if it exists.

The narrative is that it’s only or mostly white people, or Christians, they are uniquely oppressive, hateful, violent, etc.

The reason why it challenges such people is that if one admits that most cultures at some point have engaged on violence, colonialism, exploitation, and even some form of slavery, then the mainstream social justice narrative has to be readjusted. Therefore many simply reject any such counter narratives.

Alternatively, some people legitimately aren’t that educated on countries outside their own, and interpret critique as xenophobia or hate.

We had a German relative over not too long ago. We were sitting around one night talking, when I mentioned something about the African and Middle Eastern immigrants going into Germany. She sat there and declared that it was "fake news" and that there were no Africans or Middle Easterners, that all of the immigrants in Germany were other Europeans.
In both cases, I think it's some kind of strange combination of extreme cognitive dissonance, denial, and brainwashing by the media. I suspect that people who do this have racist/prejudiced feelings themselves but are so terrified of acknowledging those feelings that they will go to every opportunity to deny and use every excuse to justify the denial. It reminds me of a preacher who goes to church every Sunday and rails against homosexuality and how disgusting it is in a desperate attempt to convince himself he doesn't have urges to look at gay porn.

Well, whoever you were talking to is a full-blown idiot, because I could have sworn this was common knowledge for people up to speed on modern history.

It ain't "propaganda", it's an awful reality.

You know what, have her read my post if you can, so she can see this:

Research it before you mouth off. Eritreans got a microscopically short straw out of the deal all the way around, from being politically strangled to economically raped to literally raped.

We may be wrong but I also suspect this.

Please forgive me for sinking to these depths in attempting to deny ignorance.
