Secondly this is so wrong:

you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

Time is more valuable than money, so I can easily hire someone to provide a service cheaper than I can do it myself (I am very very expensive!)

You can change it to whatever best floats your boat. The issue is a human one, not a specific political leaning one.

Humans in relative comfort, are easily controlled. Easy way to provide relative comfort? Provide food security, as in this example. Another? Entertainment.

Rome....bread and circuses.

It is absolutely amazing how much abuse a human will willingly accept, as long as the relative comfort threshold is maintained.
