Poland Wants to Build New Military Base: "FORT TRUMP"

A co-worker was telling me about this today and I thought I would share it with the Gang here.

“I was smiling when talking to Mr. President, I said that I would very much like to ask to set up a permanent American base in Poland, which we would call ‘Fort Trump,’ ” Duda said in a joint press conference following their meeting. “I firmly believe this is possible. I am convinced that such a decision lies in the Polish interest and in the interest of the United States.”

President Donald Trump said the U.S. is considering a permanent military presence in Poland, something the Eastern European country has sought for more than a decade.



Speaking to reporters at the White House after he met with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Trump said, "Poland is willing to make a very major contribution to the United States to come in and have a presence in Poland. If they’re willing to do that, it’s something we will certainly talk about.”

They have been wanting an American Base since Bush 2 was in office. The closest they have gotten was some talk about using one of their bases as part of the American missile defense.
Does ATS think "FORT TRUMP" will come to fruition?

Why would Trump want to spend money of building and staffing a military base in Poland, when he's complaining about the cost of US presence in Germany S. Korea and Japan, especially since NATO, therefore the US, is already there?

A US base in Poland would be like spitting in Putin’s face . Especially if it’s named Trump .

Because those people in Germany would pick up and move. It aint far. I tried to get a job with the Polish F-16 program. Polish women are smokin.

The Polish President already said Poland would pay the US to be there. We could take the opportunity to close some of the other European bases. I am not backing the plan but strategically it would be an awesome move. Russia would most likely violently oppose any such moves

Mexico will pay for it too.

Poland sits on the border with Russia and is the first place that will get invaded if war breaks out . The Russians hold military exercises regularly on the border and it has been basically a red line for Putin against NATO.

Trump wants to build a base there and stand up for Poland.


So yeah I stand behind what I said.

I know, with the exception of SK, have been to those bases. If, and it's a big if, something did come of this, I believe it would be of course a shared NATO facility just like in other locations, however:

The 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act forbids stationing troops permanently on the alliance's eastern flank, but Warsaw doesn't see that as a problem.

Some say Russia violated this with the annexation of Crimea. Notice the wording as well, " permanent" troops.

In a location in Turkey I was stationed at many years ago, we were not allowed to have F16's at the base over 30 days.

The aircraft use to ferry out of Spain back and forth but often a little tail number magic and they were a different plane. Again not advocating for it, but smart strategically, Russia will oppose for sure I would look for more Marine rotations before Fort Trump.

We close a base and get to save money moving it there.

Eastern Europe has been looking nervously at Russia for years, and they are beginning to wonder if western Europe would risk a big war to protect them.

I fully expect any bases we keep in Europe in the future will shift further east.

Names and politics aside, it's a good idea. Russia is acting aggressively towards the Eastern Bloc and has been for a while. Given the history of Poland regarding wars, I would want a little reassurance of an ally present as well.

Polish bases could effectively replace German bases. Japan and SK bases are still necessary at the moment.

I agree but I also agree it would put at further odds with Russia.
