I'm checking the NC MinuteCast radar wondering how much more rain we're going to get (11:48 AM right now), and their radar is bouncing between the hurricane almost completely clearing the state (10:25 AM), the thing right on top of us (10:55 AM), Heading completely north of us (11:10), and.. when I zoom out, the damn thing is plopped on top of us again!!

The sun is sorta shining out there right now- so my question is- what the heck is wrong with their radar system?

I'd post the direct link, but my address will show up in it, and we don't want that.
Go have a look see for entertainment value.

Wait no more than 5 minutes. Someone will tell you it's a glitch.

as a Sampson county resident, I will tell you, it's going to rain a bit, then clear up, then repeat.

It's a glitch, alright! My question is- anyone know how the heck it's doing that?!

For the radar glitching itself like that? The weather is "improving" (hot, sunny, humid and sticky. Blurgh), so there's not, I repeat NOT magic storm clouds appearing out of nowhere, and disappearing. I just wanted a general idea of the somewhat unrelated thunderstorms popping up. Hard to do, when the crap's going ga ga.

It seems to have gotten over itself in that respect. I got caught in an early morning rain today, came home looking like I was buried at sea and dried out in a sauna.
My phone's IP68. Takes on a mouthful of water, spits it out, and complains a bit.

Well, at least it was Nessie. Bigfoot smells like a wet St. Bernard after it rolls in old fish and manure when he gets wet.

That's the way the NEXRAD weather radar data for storm warnings, rainfall, wind speed and direction is transmitted. The system collects all the data from the different radar towers across the USA and Canada, then builds up a set of maps at different resolutions. There is such a wide variety of data that can be received that it takes 30 to 90 minutes for one complete set of data to be received by satellite. So you end up with different weather maps at different times for each resolution.
