Looks like the EM drive has failed its' latest test to provide thrust. This was a German test where they used better shielding and what is called an extreme vacuum..

I had hoped that the drive would be a break though for space exploration but it looks like it is back to the drawing board..

For a brief moment, it seemed that researchers had measured the drive working. In 2016, a team of NASA scientists detected a tiny amount of thrust while testing the drive in a vacuum, although they were hesitant to attribute the discovery to anything except experimental error. As it turns out, they may have been right. Recently a research team in Germany conducted an experiment on the drive using resources such as an extreme vacuum and specialized shielding. However, physics won. The tiny amount of thrust detected by NASA was most likely due to an interaction of the metal drive with the earth’s magnetic field. Even though other teams around the world will continue to verify this work with experiments of their own, it seems that this may be the end of the EM Drive dream

In the Salvation documentary it WORKS!

It's gonna save the planet one day!

Yep , Nerdette in rainbow sweater telling us it doesn't work ...

(being narcistic here : but I exactly predicted that 2 years ago)

"They" are not ready to allow us off this rock just yet, not whilst there are still exorbitant amounts of profit and power to be accumulated back here on Terra Firma.

Itś kinda funny how 'they' control us. the whole emDrive was very predictable. Even alt-tech that is not 'impossible' like thorium reactors gets supressed. Tierra firma ? hell yeah , Tierra firma in chains. It's so clear so bold , so blatant these days. That even the scientific community is falling apart....

Love to say the truth will out, but if the previous century nevermind the beginnings of this one are anything to go by we are not going anywhere significant anytime soon.

Yep , Basically thatś the idea. At least that is what the public has to think.
Science acts more like a guardian these days. The whole idea is that science knows 99.99999% of the universe. And people shouldn't question it.

The method : 'Make a funny sciency vid and STHF '. the internet is full of it.

Google free energy and get hoaxed vidś in all the same format. At the same time the older more informative clips dissapear. dito here on ATS.
I see conspiracy and a mechanism. The mechanism is to discredit people that truly investigate and invent. Calling them hoaxers and start to debunk. then it's forgotten and ridiculed.
Yes real research is done , but it will never be public.

And then after a few years the cycle will repeat itself... another discovery. I vote for Qdrive... not quantum but plain Q

In the end the status quo will remain , and indeed we are not going to go anywhere. Alice in chains , that's Alice in wunderland , but unable to see the marvels of the cosmos.

But the truth is that more and more scientists are questioning whether science is still on the right path.

And now, as I have read in other ATS threads, that there are plans to have a robot on Mars by 2022 that will excite everybody in preparation for a human expedition land on Mars by 2024. I just don't see that happening.

Part of the look the other way tactics I think. And of course there is spaaaaaaaace forrrrrrrce.

Nah, ignorant tinfoil hatters on the internet are "questioning whether science is still on the right path".

Scientist are doing science, as demonstrated in this case, with multiple teams all over the world testing the idea independently.

We are not going to Mars until we manage to colonize and industrialize our own low Earth orbit.

And that's not happening until a viable in atmospheric propulsion source is discovered or released.

Aerospike engine offers one possible solution but the best way to do it is to build a space elevator.

The tech and material science is already there but production techniques remain to be seen on any kind of scale required.

Doesn’t surprise me in the least, I’ve always seen the EMdrive as a pipe dream, it might get to the point of making usable thrust of memory serves they’re working on a 2nd version but it’s not looking too good for it. The amount of thrust was so minuscule that there were a lot of factors that could account for the detected thrust.

A space elevator would not work because how many times can you listen to "Girl from Epenima " before you murder everyone else on the elevator?

if you question science you become and tinfoil hatter or invited by the Thunderbolt project.
I'm so ignorant I even don't believe in darkmaater

btw... Shungite replaces tinfoil hats nowadays.

Why do you need an EM drive?

Why not just use deep bass? There may not by anything for sound to travel through in space, but that does not cancel out the energy the bass produces.

Thoughts?

In general, that is my contention as well Andy. I know not much about the tech but doing what you suggest seems to me to be the logical course of development. Establish a function low earth presence first. This could take the form of a solid ''station'' and ''way station'' for further endeavors. A place there fabrication and assembly could reasonablly take place. Even nano production and 3d manufactureing.

The problem with that idea is that a major facility in near earth orbit would be a huge target for foreign or terrorist forces. This then is why I see the necessity for not only a space program based on individual nations or even private enterprise but rather needs to be pursued as an international project, a unified human achievement.

I think that friends need to go to space and not adversaries. One of the aspects of this type of program would be a realisitic defense system. This is why I am not completely against the notion of Spaaaaaace Forrrrrrrce. But not on a national basis, but one that would serve as a defensive measure for an international, inter governmental, private enterprise.

Then on to Mars, sure. Back when the US went to the moon, the moon was used as ''the dream'' the goal that inspired public support for the space program, it got all the people of the nation to rally in support. What it got us was a larger field of corporate tech to sell us back here on earth. Not a bad thing so much but still all those satellites for communication and entertainment are owned by only a few companies.

And what have we or any one done on the moon? Nada. Same goes for Mars. I think it to be that''golden apple'' that is being used to gain support for our nationalistic dreams which if my suppositions above are true is all it is, a pipe dream.

So yeah, we need a realistic near earth presence capable of serving all of us and not just a few.
And the ''elevator'' concept is to my study, just a concept. I think that to build one we need to have advanced more technologically as well as international cooperation. That too would be such a huge target for those who want to destroy rather than build.

I say le'ts find all the people who want to build and work together across borders and get this done.

Why indeed?

Possibly because if we are not all on the same rock we may be harder to control.

Then there are the religious aspects to contend with which may raise there head. Kind of had to believe in anthropomorphized invisible sky gods when you are working above said sky.

There are a multitude of possible reasons i suppose, non of which make much sense to me.

"fails"

One failure is a different kind of success.

"Thrust from an interaction with Earth's magnetic field."

Perhaps this device has a different future ahead of it.
