MPs condemn Fraser Anning for controversial maiden speech which called for a ban on Muslims
A Queensland Senator has been condemned by the Prime Minister and a number of other politicians for advocating a return to the White Australia policy.
Fraser Anning used his maiden speech to call for a complete overhaul of the immigration system, insisting most migrants should be from a European Christian background and all Muslims should be banned.
He joined Parliament last year as a One Nation Senator but has since defected to Katter's Australian Party.
Senator Anning's comments have been labelled as appalling and disgusting by politicians from across the divide, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who took to Twitter to express his views.
"Australia is the most successful multicultural society in the world built on a foundation of mutual respect. We reject and condemn racism in any form," he said. Crossbench Senator Derryn Hinch was sitting in the Upper House listening to the speech and said it was excruciating. "It was Pauline Hanson on steroids," he told the ABC's AM program
Barack Obama arrives in Sydney ahead of meeting with Malcolm Turnbull
The Daily Telegraph March 23, 2018 12:21PM
FORMER US president Barack Obama has touched down in Australia for a private speaking engagement.
He arrived at Sydney Airport at lunchtime on Friday ahead of an event at the Art Gallery of NSW hosted by the New Zealand United States Council.
A motorcade of vans, SUVs and more than a dozen police motorbikes, transported Mr Obama from the airport to a hotel in Sydney’s CBD.
Police helicopters swirled above the building as he was driven into it.
Mr Obama flew in from New Zealand where he met Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and former leader John Key.
The firebombings underline that Mr Oueida, a high-priority target of federal authorities, is also being ruthlessly pursued by criminal elements.....
He has been suspected of involvement in at least one significant drug importation since his release, but has not been charged by police.
Mr Oueida was shot in April last year as he left lunchtime prayer at a mosque in Coburg. Two members of the Tiba family have been charged in relation to the shooting.
Mr Oueida has been overseas for most of the time since the attack, predominantly in Lebanon and Dubai — a haunt for a string of Australian organised crime figures.
The city was considered an enclave from Australian authorities until last August, when four men — including two brothers of Sydney identity John Ibrahim — were arrested by United Arab Emirates police and then extradited in relation to an alleged international drug smuggling syndicate.
It was the first successful extradition from the UAE on behalf of Australian authorities, the Australian Federal Police confirmed at the time.

The Human Headline was snapped catching some shut-eye during Governor-General Peter Cosgrove's welcoming address to the 45th Parliament....
"People have a right to see exactly what is happening on both sides of the Parliament," he said last Friday. "The media – and thus the public – should be able to see us in action, or photograph our inaction. If you get caught nibbling your ear wax, or counting your money or dozing: tough."

Senator Hinch told Fairfax Media he would continue to fight for greater transparency despite being "caught out" by Fairfax Media's cameras on Tuesday.

i wonder what the natives in Australia think about this, the ones whom were there thousands of years prior to the 'explorers and colonists'
wish they had more thorough 'vetting ' procedures back then...

I'm sure the Aboriginal Australians have thought something similar about maintaining their ancient cultural heritage many times during the Colonial, Post-Colonial and modern times. Since they had a 70,000 year head start on white colonialists, don't they get to call first dibbs?

I bet the Aborigines are wishing they'd had laws in place only allowing their own people in. Immigration sure hasn't done them any good.
