The youngsters today think they rule the world.

Nowadays everything new is good and shiny, and everything that's old and withstood some of the test of time must be replaced.

Now take ATS, it has an "adopt a new member thread", but it doesn't have an "adopt an old member thread".

Perhaps some older members need guidance, before they end up in the glue factory.

Maybe some of us old-timers have seen so many posts (yip, almost seen it all), we get all confused these days, and everything seems open to endless interpretation.

But sometimes older members tend to forget things, or they aren't that clear anymore.

Newer members are treated like unfortunate orphans, but older members are left to wander the cruel, crazy, beautiful avenues of ATS alone.
That's cyber-ageism.

If newer members can be adopted, then why not older members?

Surely if age is such a problem maybe a Doctor might be better call then having someone hold your hand on a forum lol

Only for us oldtimers I suppose.
Not for the newbies, of course.

That's exactly what I was talking about!

As I am newer than you, I adopt you, that is if you want me as an adoptive mentor. I start with your one line from the OP above. That one line to me expresses one of the major existential delimias of this modern age,

As old paradigms fade in light of increasing knowledge failing to hold sway of older times we are faced with many people opening a plethora of pandoras boxes of knowledge and our certainty evaporates. We see how many younger people exercising the same curiosity as we did when we were younger, yet when we were younger the field of possiblities seemed so much smaller.

To this notion I always bounce back to that old Yeat's line from the Second Coming, '' the center cannot hold''

Ok adoptee, sing to me thy dreams.

I'll counter Yeats with Herman Melville, "Yea and nay -- each hath his say: but God, He keeps the middle way."

It was the bathroom but still...

Referring to newer or older members (all visible), not necessarily chronological age.

Although there is probably a correlation between the two.

My pics all over anyway, so I'm 43.

But the stork brought me to ATS in 2009.
Sorry always took humanities' courses at college, so I can't work it out.

No really, if I had been here since 2010, and now it's 2018 - OK, that's 8 years.

But consider I've been here since 2009 - now that complicates matters.

I've got some kittens here you can adopt.

Adopt the kitten or the kitten gets it!

Bring me your kittens ... OK
I might keep one and give the rest to the glue factory.
If I receive a box with ... if I get a box full of kittens, it will be like a starfish.

A million starfish on the shore, but if I throw one starfish in the sea, it matters to that starfish.

Same with kittens.
No don't throw them in the sea.
It's a metaphor people!

I already got kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. I don't want to be adopted by another kid, I'm supposed to be retired, the young think we need to keep more active..
