This is from my local area .

Peculiar MO (suburb of KC) cop is staring at his phone when he slams into a bicyclist head on.

The guy on the bike is just sitting there minding his own business then blam lol.

Really clear video of the cop just staring at his phone while making a left turn?

Then the cop says yeah he was texting another officer.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A YouTube video posted Thursday night shows a bicyclist struck head-on by a Peculiar, Missouri Police officer. A Missouri Highway Patrol crash report into the investigation identified the officer as 41-year-old Charles Wallace.

Eh cyclists.

I mean you kind of bring this # on yourself. Most of them have 0 respect for road rules, and they always hold up traffic. Passing cyclists on the road is stressful because you never know what they plan to do.

Obviously this cop shouldn't have been looking at his phone while driving.

At least the cop followed proper procedure. Mistakes happen. Glad nobody was hurt, but this officer should've known better.

The bright thing to take away is nobody flipped out, so cooler heads prevail.

This makes me glad we have a 20 mile bike path around the city I live in. It is way too dangerous to ride the roads anymore with the wonderful invention of the cell phone. That and how may people that find bicyclists getting run over being really funny for some reason. I know there are jerk cyclists out there, but the anger seems very disproportionate.

That wasn't even a proper turn. He straight drove into the wrong lane of traffic. The cyclist followed all the rules of the road in the video. If he would've been on a motorbike, do your opinions still stand?

First, the cyclist was stopped at a stop sign and on the correct side, so let's not blame him. The cop was wrong. The cop was obviously distracted.

Second, the cop won't be charged. If I'm correct, police are exempt from the hands-free cell phone laws. That is why he said he was talking to another officer. If he's doing police business, he can talk on the phone.

its funny the same way fail videos and such are funny. its hilarious when people get messed up. just enough for us to know they got messed up. better if its messed up for being stupid like when they try a flaming shot and catch their face on fire.
i love it

but not too messed up.

im not a monster

The cop is no different than a lot of people I see every day. Talking or texting. I wonder if he gave himself a ticket for inattentive driving.

My wife says she saw a dude on a motorcycle texting. She was like WTF. What is so damned important.

I ride a motorcycle, and I know the risks.

Improper turn .
Driving while distracted.
Police officers are not exempt from that...

And they are exempt from citations for hands free. Not the consequences that follow

Well at least he didn't have to walk far to write up the accident report.

State troopers wrote it up. The officer doesn't get to do his own report.

Hate to think of the result if a citizen had hit a bike officer under this condition.

Must be nice ... 2 sets of laws.

currently on paid leave pending the outcome of that investigation...
It’s not immediately clear if the officer will be cited in the incident.

So what your basically saying is, we need to find a way to make this the bicyclists fault, no matter how far back to unrelated matters we need to look?? Sounds to me like your a dirty cop.
