A flaw in education!

So at a boot-camp this dude asks me, what you're really German?
Not sure why that shocks some people, I guess they never heard me speak German.
Oh my hat, I thought you were English.
I get that a lot.
I just wanted to explain, and he says: "So, you were one of the Nazis?"
How should I explain ... it was a bit before my time on earth.

Not sure if history or mathematics is to blame here, but flip, surely I don't look that old!
