Theoretical physicists and cosmologists have to find answers to the most fundamental questions: "Why are we here?", "When did the universe appear?" And "How did this happen?" However, despite the obvious importance of finding answers to these questions, there is a question that dwarfs them all with their interest: "What was before the Big Bang?".

To be frank: we can not answer this question. No one can. But in fact nobody forbids to speculate on this subject and to consider some interesting assumptions? This is agreed, for example, by Sean Carroll of the California Institute of Technology. Last month, Carroll participated in the bi-annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society, where he proposed several "pre-explosive" scenarios, whose "final chord" could be the emergence of our universe. Again, this is just a discussion, not a theory, so please consider this.

Well, all I can say is that when I am out stargazing and thinking about the size of the Universe, I get a headache. My puny mind just cant grasp it.

Infinity. Dee-amn.

Thinking about the what was here before the big bang and I get a Migraine.

One theory is there was a "big crunch"

Basically everything in the previous universe was smashed into infinite density... after which came La Big bang...

Wash, rinse, repeat

I'll go with that idea

I wonder where it was before the big bang

I would equate that thought, to a germ looking about seeing things relevant to scale. We see things the same.

Who is to assert that we aren't but a single cell in the body of an upscale different universe mega being or ( insert own theory now ) plane ?

I need a beer.

"At that time, so to speak, the laws of physics that are known to us did not yet work, because" then "they did not exist," Carroll said.

There is a theory that says 'there was no big bang'.
The question is..........why do we make up things?

The Great Expansion caused by Dark Matter and Dark Energy.
That runs out
The Great Collapse begins.

I’ve always seen the universe as a sort of heartbeat. In and out. Very slow. Very steady. a reply to: Judy21

Maybe its not possible to get something from nothing.

What if nothing is appearing to happen?
Emptiness is forming.

I have no answer.

And even the greatest brains of our time can only hypothesise.

In this link. Neil Degrasse Tyson asks the same question to Prof Stephen Hawking at 14:14 min.

I'm not saying what they're saying is correct.

I do like Akragon's wash, rinse, repeat.

What is here now has always been here - this is simply the current configuration.

Maybe that's one way to look at it.

And there are plenty of strange and interesting ideas.

It's a mind#k.

What is known from immediately after the "big bang" though is based on data.

The mind is idea-ing!!
The mind is just words and concepts - ideas about things.
But minding (thinking) is thinging.

If there were no words or ideas....... what is there really?

Who was there to collect the data?

Time was invented to enslave you - if there was only now to worry about - how much fear would there be?

Depends what you're looking for.

What is appearing now is overlooked.
Jesus was said to be teaching the blind to see and the deaf to hear.

Do you need to look for some 'thing' now? Or is now simply appearing as sight?

Before the Big Bang was the previous universe.

The present universe was born from the death of the previous.
