Yes, it is good news. Two boys out so far and they appear to be in good shape. Fox is reporting they are being transferred to the hospital to be checked out to be sure.

Somebody get to frying chicken!

Fox just upped it to three boys rescued while I was typing!

Been keeping an eye on this.

A group of badasses.

Glad to see them finally being extracted.

I've had so much anxiety over this rescue and still do. As a diver, I can tell you that diving in murky, muddy water can be very unnerving. I've been with groups that go right through it, no problems. If it lasts long enough, I surface.
I really, really don't like not being able to see.

Fingers crossed. God Bless them all.

And thanks for the thread.

Six out now.

Good decision imo, when the rain starts to fall you need so much pumping capacity. It's almost impossible to keep up. Us lowlanders know a thing or two about displacing water.
That combined with the low levels of oxygen in the cave leaves little options.

Ironic that events like these are needed to increase safety and awareness, putting lives on the line.

SE Asians are pretty savvy about dealing with water too. I was amazed when I was working over there. The problem there is how much water comes at once. It rains so freaking hard over there it's unbelievable! I had never dreamed that much water could fall from the sky in such a short period of time. It would rain so hard there would be like 4" of water on an elevated roadway before it could even run off. Just unbelievable.

Conflicting reports on how many have been rescued.

Reuters says 6

Thai Navy says 4

combine the murky, muddy water with EXTREMELY tight spaces and it can be very unnerving. I read the other day that there is a very tight section on the way down where they cant fit through with typical diving equipment......not sure of the validity of that claim tho.

Yeah, the graphic used by Fox is showing that as the first fully flooded passage. The second one requires full underwater climbing gear. A lot of logistics going on there.

Here is a good graphic showing the sizes of the passageway along the route...

Cave Graphic

As you can see, the smallest section is less than 3 feet wide by just over 1 foot high, so yes you would likely have to remove your diving gear to get through this space.

Thought to be conducting some sort of passage of rites ritual.

ETA...Then, apparently, when the waters started to rise they had to flee further into the cave complex to escape the rising water.

I saw something too, about a diver who had to remove part of his equipment, to squeeze through the narrow opening.

They've dropped the number of rescues from six to four?

This is a treacherous dive for seals, and those kids? ( I'm a wreck. )

But they are tethered to the diver, so that will make them feel somewhat more secure.

eta: two divers per child and they were trained to deal with panic. (my biggest fear)

I can't imagine there being much feeling of security when you're getting banged off and dragged through tiny openings of rocks, underwater, in zero visibility.

The U.S. is working very closely with the Government of Thailand to help get all of the children out of the cave and to safety. Very brave and talented people!

A U.S. Navy Seal just said "if they panic, the divers have a plan. They're little, they're gonna get drug out".

lol. I found that reassuring.
