Anthony Bourdain dead at 61 years old

CNN just announced Anthony Bourdain has died at the age of 61 at a hotel in France. He was there filming for one of his tv shows. Cause of death has not been verified but initial reports are suicide.

New York (CNN)Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61.
CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.
"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

There seems to be more and more people killing themselves. Or the media is just reporting on it more now.

It is the latter; media reporting on it now.

Hitherto there has been sort of a code amongst media outlets in many countries to not report on suicides, due to the dreaded copycat effect:

Suicides goes up when suicides are reported on, but, alas, in these times journalistic integrity of course gives way to clicks and retweets.

Was he diabetic?

RIP Anthony and my condolences to his family. I watched his show many times and enjoyed it very much but being on the road all the time, away from home and family, must have taken its toll on him.

a reply to: InTheLight I'm pretty sure the guy had enough money so he didn't have to continue being on the road and leading a celebrity life style if he chose not too. Was he an alcoholic? He seemed to drink a lot.

One thing for sure, he chose to be on the road and be alone.

Yes, he was an alcoholic and an addict.

Alcohol and drug abuse are very much a part of the service industry and there is a saying many people use about chefs:

"Most chefs have AA disease. They are assholes and alcoholics".

I hope he rests well.

I did. Travelled vicariously through his show.
Gonna miss him.

Sad, very sad. I don't know if he was a good man or a bad man, but he was sure as hell an infinitely interesting man.

I don't think he was someone easily pigeonholed into one political camp or the other. He didn't like Trump, that doesn't magically make him a leftist POS like the "news" makers on CNN.

Couldnt find any recent ratings...but I am sure there were over a hundred thousand viewers of his show easily.
